The trailer is still trying to seem serious, but the opening betrays what the actual tone of the story is

For manga readers, does this series get any better? I dropped it because of the cringe humour and lame mysteries

Dang. I was excited for this one but the tonal dissonance with the murder scenes/bodies and that peppy, happy-go-lucky music just... isn't working for me. Not to mention the moe-eyed and bushy-tailed MC who'll trail after the disheveled detective.
