The Expo has really been beset with issue after issue; dangerous methane gas leaks, poor online booking systems, insanely expensive and poor value food stalls, extremely long wait times and the fact you can't actually use physical cash anywhere and if you use your phone to pay for something, the Wi-Fi connections are poor or non existent. Everyday a new issue seems to crop up in the Japanese news. I was toying with the idea of going to Osaka to see this, but went saw the Sapporo Snow Festival and a concert in February instead. So glad I did.

I'd add the "Under the Midnight Rainbow" show to this list https://www.expo2025.airandwatershow.jp/en/ https://vgmdb.net/album/148736
It's basically an anime projected on various fountains with voice actors and a soundtrack by Yoko Kanno.
I went the first week (days 3-5 or so) and it mostly went pretty well, I think. 1. True, the online booking site, app, and process were super confusing and inconvenient. 2. Expensive and poor value food stalls? This isn't the case, there are a lot of food options and various convenience stores, with prices on level with food in Japan outside of the venue. 3. I didn't experience any long wait times. I was able to make same day reservations for almost all pavilions, and got into my top 10. The pavilions I queued at without signing up for (USA, France, Iida group, tech world) I didn't wait more than 30 minutes. 4. Not using physical cash is an improvement, not an issue. That said, I have heard of people having issues making same day reservations after I went. It really depends on how crowded it is at that point, with my attendance being on weekdays not during any Japanese holiday. |
