As a fan of the anime, I'm eager to read the manga as well! I always liked Saki from the get-go though.

I'm also fine with her. I think someone's enjoyment of this series will be how much they like Saki because she has such a prominent and large role all throughout the series.
The series ends at chapter 100 but 101+ are a spin-off series about Makoto and Ryuji's middle-school years which doesn't have Saki obviously so maybe some people might like the spin-off more.

Interesting review, though it's important to notice that Makoto isn't trans or identifies as a woman, in many moments of the first volume he shows interest and desire in being recognized as a man. While relatable to trans people, this a crossdressing series
