After reading this article, and the ANN interview with the influencers behind this anime. I hope this doesn't lead or cause a repeat of Porter Robinson's Shelter. For those of you that don't know about it, in 2016, after the AMV went up, the Anime subreddit removed it despite being an anime and it caused a controversy about what is anime over the removal of the AMV, even Robinson tweeted about it.

I mean, that happened even more recently with Scott Pilgrim, despite being made by the same people currently making DanDaDan. |

Oh, you mean MAL/Myanimelist refusing to put Scott Pilgrim on their database despite ANN's Encyclopedia, Anilist, and AniDB have all classified Scott Pilgrim as anime. Yeah, I've already known of this for a long time, and if you want to read about how the definition of anime get blurred, muddied, and downright confusing, you can read it right here. |

"The same people" did not make Dandadan and Scott Pilgrim. They might both be animated by Science Saru but their creative teams are completely different. That's like saying "the same people" made Pinky and the Brain and Dr. Stone because TMS worked on both. |

People know there are tonnes of short films on youtube, completely made in japan with no myanimelist listing? Why do we have to get so incensed specifically about a random shortfilm made by an "anime influencer" not being included.
I have a lot of pet peeves about MAL and the first things I'd change would not be adding shelter or "baan". For one thing if they're going to list short films, they should start with all those other short films made in japan, korea and china, most of which follow the general "anime/aeni/donghua" design trends. |
