I wonder how much the sequels will do. Generally sequels do less

If they stick to limited releases/runs, it should do... as well as how many theaters they decide to put the next one in.

If the same, it should do the same.

My theater was sold out for a 10:30 pm show.

All in all, it was a good long episode of Demon Slayer. Everyone seemed pleased.

The sympathetic back-story dumps before a character bites it is getting too predictable and repetitive and interrupts the action, but at least they were some good ones, and while the film is unresolved and 'to be continued' there was a good satisfying climax.

This movie is doing so well in the world and it's breaking records that movies that don't need to be watched held for years. I think that if this movie was an original content movie (hence, not needing to be watched to continue the story), then it would have earned way less. I expected the next two movies to be successful as well.

Of course this series is popular though. That plays a big part in the success as well.

I'm sure Miyazaki-sensei will have sleepless nights when he hears this Rolling Eyes

Well, they won't be sequels per se. They are rather chapters 2 and 3 following this film, which is chapter one. I imagine people will want to see the end of the entire saga play out. My prediction (for what that's worth) is that any fall-off, if there is one, will be pretty minor.

Also, Infinity Castle is in fact a sequel to Mugen Train, and it did rather better than that one. So there's still room to grow the brand.

And now it's up to the next two (possibly) three movies. Kimetsu can potentially take four (five) of the top five spots.

I do remember seeing an article some years ago saying Miyazaki considered Demon Slayer a rival to him, though I don't know if that article was real of Hayao was half joking Laughing
Still, I find it kind of amusing that in the Latin American Spanish dub some of the voice cast have worked in different Studio Ghibli films:
- Cristina Hernández (Shinobu Kocho) voiced Kiki in Kiki's Delivery Service first dub made by Disney;
- Luis Leonardo Suárez (Muzan Kibutsuji) voiced Ashitaka in Princess Mononoke Netflix's redub made in 2020;
- Alan Fernando Velázquez (Doma) voiced Haku in Spirited Away 2020 redub;
- Georgina Sánchez (Kanae Kocho) voiced Sosuke in Ponyo's 2020 redub;
- Aejandro Villeli (Sakonji Urokodaki) voiced Grand Uncle in The Boy and the Heron;
- Rossy Aguirre (Doma's mother) voiced Nausicaä in Warriors of the Wind redub.

Unpopular opinion: I have zero desire to read or watch DS. If others enjoy it, no problem, but it's not my thing at all.
