This week's numbers are kind of interesting:
- Ghost of Yotei had the fifth best opening for a PS5 game in Japan, above Armored Core VI and below Dragon Quest III HD-2D. And just comparison Ghost of Tsushima sold 212k copies in its opening week back in 2020 on the PS4, so while there's a significant decline, I believe it's not that bad considering the state of the PS5 in Japan, and it's also impressive considering Yotei is not a Japanese developed game;
- Super Mario Galaxy 1+2's debut is not that bad, though looking at Famitsu's website it seems there's a lot of unsold stock, but I guess the game could become an evergreen title, especially when The Super Mario Galaxy Movie arrives next year. I also suspect that most poeple just bought Galaxy 2 digitally, since Galaxy 1 was included on the Super Mario 3D All-Stars compilation from a few years ago, which I believe sold 200k on its opening week in Japan;
- I'm kind of surprised that the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster sold better on the Switch 1, I think this is the first time a multiplatform FF game managed to sold better on Nintendo than on PlayStation. I suppose Square-Enix's attempts to rebuild FF's audience on Nintendo's consoles is working, though the real test will be FFVII Remake Intergrde's launch next year.
I also noticed that Sonic Racing Crossworld did not even charted in the Top 30, which not too surprising.
