what I love about these episodes is Sae's friend group.

Yup, this is my favourite thing about the manga. Really gives me Kimi ni Todoke vibes

Pure and sincere Shojo romances' are my jam and this delivers on that on all fronts.

Likeable characters, passionate and heartfelt love, cute and fun comedy, a bespectaled beautie who acts like she has no idea she's in a Shojo manga, the most extra wingwoman of all time...it's got it all!

Even managed to finally fit in a title drop! Even while breaking the Heroine's heart into pieces!

Sae's friends are funny and kind. They play off well against each other.

Wish I could say this was the norm rather than the exception for recent shojo adaptations, but it's nice to see this show (despite its transparent lack of resources, also a sad commonality with these works) has a good collection of directors trying to have fun with the material where they can, even if it's something as simple as match cuts to lunchboxes

I like how Sae is like your typical girly girl and cute Heroine but she also does push-ups to get over her heartbreak, is sporty, and does the usual "tough" stuff like lifting someone up. That scene of her and Ayukawa was adorable.

Also it's nice to see the gal pals really coming together and helping Sae through this difficult time. Sui really cares. A lot. And while Mio is practical and efficient, she's sincere in her own way...and has finally been won over by girl talk!

It's hard to avoid the boy who broke your heart when the world seems like it's out to always drive you two together.

That teacher sentinel eyecatch was priceless. I'm guessing she probably gave the girls a pass there.

Koki had that real "oh no, I didn't expect my attempt to masquerade my feelings would make you not want to talk to me!" face.

Oh if only being "just friends" wasn't still going to be excruciating.

Hopefully the girl showing up at Koki's place spoiler[(his older cousin Subaru)] will shake things up.

Imagine you're resolved to (hopelessly) give up on the love of your life and then said love in your life can't let you do that and basically motivates you to confess to them...when the timing is right.

I think we've all gone through texting the wrong person when we're shifting through group chats at some point in our lives.

There has literally been some event at this school for basically every episode. I mean, a play all in English? At a Japanese high school!? Though I respect using the Wizard of Oz because it feels like it's always either Cinderella or Snow White.

That scene of them together in the rain was beautiful.

I believe that Subaru was Kurumi in a previous/alternate life considering how uncannily similar the two are.

Kouki really stepped up his possessiveness game this episode, basically claiming her against potential rivals no less than three times (Ayukawa, the lost boys, and their former school mates). I kinda worry that Sae is so blinded by longing and her inferiority complex that she doesn't even notice what he's doing. Not to mention his impulse to violence whenever someone insults her (which they even reminded us of in this ep). In a different anime, these would be serious red flags. Shocked

I hope Takuya gets to keep his cuts. Smile He looks good with them.

I've been behind Sae and Ayukawa for awhile now so being gaslit by the reviewer that the show is a "will they or won't they?" slog for Sae and Koki is something I've gotten used to as this point.

But blaming it on the dub downplaying Subaru being Koki's cousin? The episode description says Subaru is Koki's cousin so it's not like the show is trying to hide it.

Either way, Koki seems to have friendzoned Sae long before Subaru entered the picture. Exhibiting possessiveness while maintaining romantic distance? He sees Sae more like a relative than he does Subaru! Also, the shogi game was cuter than anything that has come up between Koki and Sae.

But then we get to the elevator. It never would have occurred to Sae that she could have used the elevator by herself? Or is the point that if she went on first then Koki would have triggered the maximum weight/"occupancy" warning? They're both bigger than the average Japanese, I'm not sure how Sae wouldn't take it personally either way.

I keep wondering if one of the girls are going to end up in a side ship with Izawa but frankly they all deserve better.

It really feels like Sae is caught between two separate Shojo romance stories between Koki and Ayukawa, though only Koki is the one she pays the closest attention to and seems happiest with.

Honestly, that's so weird. Even if you want to ignore the implication of them insinuating he might have a thing for this cousin, they literally have the same last name.

I think Koki's feelings have been pretty obvious and obvious signs of how much he's into Sae on a romantic level. It's just Sae and Koki's respective insecurities just kind of blinded the two of them to the truth of their feelings when it's obvious to everybody.
