Episode 3
I think it is a bit of an interesting take that he chose the obviously terrible choice thinking that it would get him a transformation ability, and he didn't even get said ability. My guess in the episode was that he would need to eat a human to get the transformation ability, which would not be ideal. Also, is it a coincidence in the episode that two big enemies in this episode were a very persistent giant spider and a glitchy slime. They kind of resemble two other series that have people reincarnated as monsters. |

Episode 3.
I didn't connect the monsters to other isekei series but I did reach the conclusion that the spider was a reincarnated human. It had too many moments of it using powers abnormally. After it made an actual rope bridge I thought "admit it, you were human!" I agree that consuming a human form could be the way yo unlock the transformation but I think it's just as likely that he needs to learn a shapeshifting spell. I think it's tied to an evil dragon because it's a form a black magic... which brings of good white magic and how those dragons take longer to gain human forms. So far the series has been "funny but disappointing in a way". When the whole series could have been skipped by reading a game tutorial, you didn't reach the pinnacle of storytelling. Yet the in game help system being very unhelpful when not being downright sarcastic keeps my interest going. |

I sympathize for Illusia. It's like he just keeps running into all these roadblock that impede his process. And even though he tries to do good, he just keeps getting the short end of the stick in life. But the fact that this has 16 LN volumes seems to indicate he got pretty far, after all. Maybe it's a thing of like, beginning life as a dragon, then eventually some were-dragon hybrid where he can actually take both dragon and human form when needed. The first few episodes make his situation seem a lot more dire, though. It's kind of sad.

Ep7-Not sure who is following this other than me, so I'm here to report that I have been liking this little show which has turned out to have a surprising amount of "heart" and a multifaceted story where each character has some depth (though not much). The story is following our protag, the young woman Myria who helped him as a "hatchling", Doz, the leader of the team she was in and who attacked him at the time and a group of humans investigating the monster goings-on in the forest in parallel. It's been a little slow in all threads but now has just started reintegrating the parallel storylines.
While the protag "Young Plague Dragon" has teamed up with a "Poison Princess Lizard", though non-verbal the writer has managed to communicate the character interactions and build a relationship dynamic, if somewhat single-sidedly. This ep though YPG was confronted with the choice to help Myria by leaving "Princess" (temporarily) and when he did on top of other events straining their relationship, he the oblivious male and "Princess" totally in love with him, it broke her heart and it made me sad. The writer got me rooting for them as a (monster) couple. Maybe I'm a hopeless romantic, but I think the writing has to be better than average to accomplish that and I hope this show gets some love going forward. |

If for no other reason than to resurrect this from Pg3 oblivion, I am here to report that Ep12 ended the series on some interesting notes and disclosed that the "Divine Voice" wasn't exclusive to Illusia and is irresponsible at best or possibly using reincarnatees for nefarious ends as yet undisclosed at worst. While there is a mild sequel hook, I really liked the characterizations and Illusia's refusal to go along with the Divine Voice and evil temptations to become a hero and protect those he cares about (Myria and Princess) by doing what is right, even if they never acknowledge that or understand. Good is it's own reward and I hope to see an S2 for this enjoyable little show...
