The series could have ended with the third episode of the season and nobody would have complained

I remember being struck when reading the manga by how stridently anti-war Loid's origin story is. The details of the bombings, of the loss of normalcy, and of the cruel pointlessness and loss that war inflicts were very starkly portrayed. I'm really glad we have media like this willing to show war not as the glamorous thing often lionized by stories but as a horrific event that rips families and people apart and leaves trauma that will take generations to ease. And I'm so glad we now have that properly animated.

Well, war has been hated since forever, just a handful of cultures have glorified it.

My favorite example its Ares vs Mars.

If you read greek mythology Ares is a loser who is always the butt of the joke and while other gods can be in charge of many things he is the god of war and nothing else.

This is the one thing Record of Ragnarok got right history wise.

But, if you read Roman mythology, Mars is a... "giga chad" as kids nowadays say.

-----------------------

Anyways, I always loved how when the spy asks Loid why he wants to become an spy he doesn't answer, but we see kids smiling running next to him.

This is something I really hated in Code: White, Loid screams out loud he became an spy to protect children's smiles, lame.

The chapters these episodes are adapting came out just after the start of the war in Ukraine, given the setting and context of the comic, I strongly feel that the the timing of this flash back was the author's response to the start of that war.

With the way you describe this, a later extended flashback sequence (that might be animated next season) really feels like a continuation of this response.

The Forger Family are back for more fun and adventures!

To think Anya getting a Tonitrus Bolt would be enough to put Loid in a flashback coma and deliver one of the series' most hard-hitting arcs told amazingly well in animation. And that remembering Sylvia's training would be what finally wakes him up because it was that bad.

War...war never changes...the senseless loss of life, people driven to kill others thanks to politics, nationalism, and misinformation. That Franky had enough self-awareness to realize all this and desert shows how much sense he has, but it took a little longer and more loss before REDACTED realized that.

That scene where REDACTED became a child again after seeing his friends alive...I knew what was coming, but it was still a really nice scene.

Kenjiro Tsuda being the spy that recruited REDACTED was on-point.

Twilight fights to protect the happiness of children and to prevent them from ever enduring what he did. At least now he's been able to regain some semblance of that happiness and sense of family he lost after losing his own, gets to see Anya have the childhood he couldn't and get some Anya headpats in the process.

XXXX's past are my favorite chapters in the manga, it tells you everything about "Lloid" and the way he views the world.

It kills me everytime the scene where he lies to his dad "I lied-My food didn't taste like anything, after" and after that he couldn't live anything but lies, there were a couple times were he true self showed "I saw him, and I didn't saw an enemy, I saw a person" (meeting Franky) or his decision to become a Spy (protecting kids from living his life).

It's beautiful, and we don't get anything as interesting on a looooong time (spoiler[Martha's past]).

Judging by where it is in the manga, I think it’s unlikely we’ll get Henderson’s past this cour. It’s bus time, baby!

Felt like the overal theme of the episode (beyond giving Sylvia and Henderson more screentime) is the duty of the older generation to mentor and properly educate the younger generation, taking their experiences and how life has shaped them and using that as a means of making sure those younger than you are better learned about the world around them and their potential.

And also Sylvia kicks a lot of butt.

I love the look on the mistress' face at her mafia daddy trying to kill Wellman.

Oh, is that a cameo from Endo himself in the hall of Imperial Scholars? To be honest I noticed that it went from people in fancy outfits to Donovan Desmond to...people in normal clothes.

I love how Anya always keeps people on their toes because she can shift on a dime thanks to her telepathy.

Most genuine child moment of the episode was Anya devouring those snacks and then running away the moment Henderson suggested helping with her school work.

Loid's never going to live down that Tonitrus Bolt at this rate. Imagine Anya gets a third!

I was surprised by the twist revelation behind Damian's mother but I am starting to feel bad b the poor kid considering it seems his education is quite harsh.

Who better to become Yor's new mom pal than the mom of her daughters' "mission" and voiced by none other than the most legendary MILF seiyuu of all time? Even threw in an Ara Ara, Ma Ma for good measure.

I love how they had Melinda drag out her last name for dramatic effect.

As fun as it is to see Yor find her hidden calling as a Battle Shonen sports player...I'm glad she's found a community of fellow moms who are nice and accept her. Compared to her co-workers, it's a far healthier group dynamic.

Poor Anya feels like she has to compete with her mother in terms of their respective Desmond Family plans. But that just makes it all the more hilarious.

That's one cliffhanger that escalated. I'm not sure how to feel about this change of atmosphere but Lloid's flashback was also surprisingly dark.

I think we all learned some important lessons in this episode.

It doesn't matter how much you try to sabotage someone if they're far more likeable and charming than you are, it won't make people like you any more.

Handsome Franky exists and got to have some fun "arresting" Loid.

Loid is actually pretty good at putting his own spy knowledge into his psychology job.

Fiona can pass as a convincing dude while still being as obsessed with Twilight.

Anya has a very effective uggo face.

Watch out for terrorist groups hijacking your bus.

I honestly couldn't laugh at Anya's behaviour because the other kid actually thinks his head is going to blow up.
