i will always vet for some puyo puyo recognition over here in the states, it's one of my favorite series.
...now if we can get a new puyo puyo game, i'd be even happier...but then again, i don't know if that's my nostalgia bias talking (since i played this game back in 2018 and got hooked on it around 2020) or if it's really necessary since puyo puyo tetris 1 and 2 are pretty goated.

I wonder if this boost mode means we shouldn’t be expecting as many performance patches going forward…. I’m still holding out hope for NS2 editions for the remaining Xenoblade, though. And maybe Skyward Sword, too (seems like mouse controls might be fun, there — and, actually, Okami?!?
(At this point I don’t think I’ll ever get to Future Redeemed unless an NS2 edition manifests.)
Reading through that bit on Fate was like word salad to me. From the outside, that whole franchise looks pretty impenetrable. So is it like an old MMO where the spirits, or whatever, only have limited character customization options, so they all end up looking alike? What a wild creative choice. Why go that way instead of just… designing new characters?
Regardless, I did pick up the original VN on a Steam sale a few weeks okay, so I guess maybe someday soon I’ll be able to read about this franchise without my eyes glazing over.
EDIT: Oh, and about Boost Mode — does it really affect the battery life that much? I’m not really noticing a difference with over here, but then again, the Switch 2 battery already drains pretty dang fast (especially w/ that option to keep it from charging over 84%).

| Quote: | | There was a bit of a hiccup with the Story of Seasons games, which is largely due to Natsume and the whole "Harvest Moon" debacle. Put simply: Natsume owned the Harvest Moon branding, courtesy of their efforts in localizing the games when they did. So when Marvelous started localizing the series in-house, they couldn't release them with the Harvest Moon branding, retitling the games as the Story of Seasons games (which is closer to what the Japanese series title, Bokujō Monogatari, means anyway). Natsume still releases Harvest Moon games to this day, but the Harvest Moon games you know and remember were all the Story of Seasons games. Hence the debate with those old Rune Factory and Innocent Life subtitles. |
And thus all hell broke loose.
Even all these years on this can get confusing.

Yeah, Extra Record's delay is not at all shocking- especially given the silence on the game thus far. The loss of publisher is...well, its a really bad sign for a game that was supposedly out to market in the very near future. I'm calling the thing vaporware for now- hopefully it will prove me wrong.

I believe Nero looking like Artoria was more of an attempted misdirect. The only other Saber anyone knew at that point was Artoria, so they wanted to through fans off with a new Saber that had her face but a wildly different personality.
"Saber Face" characters would become a minor franchise joke, though that's kinda been buried under the number of servants designed for FGO (a couple of which have Saber Face, but the vast majority of which do not).
As for the "class" thing, for lore reasons you generally can't summon a Heroic Spirit in their full scope, so they instead use a "class container" to summon just a specific aspect of them. So, for example, Cu Chulainn as a Lancer is a warrior weilding his legendary spear while Cu Chulainn as a Caster is more of a druid utilizing rune-based magic.

-Fate: Yeesh, what the heck is going on that this happened? I know Bandai Namco has been downsizing a bit but this is getting a tad worrisome.
-Sonic Racing: I mean, once you go pirate what else is there?
-Switch Boost: Eh, kind of amusing but if it gets in the way of handheld utility, what's the point? Better than DLSS5's crap, but whatever
-Story of Seasons: I expect cow will win by a landslide
Also, have to mention today is the one-year anniversary of Xenoblade X getting its Definitive Edition. Ah, what a good time, last game I ever played on my Switch. Not a bad way to send it off.
Anyway, now to dive into the abyss that is the Trails series

The DLSS5 stuff just looks like Reshade and HD graphic mods to me which people have been using for decades. As long as it's optional and we can choose I don't mind..

To add a little more onto the Extra Record discussion: I know its easy to jump to blaming Bandai-Namco, and that's not for nothing. They've made some head-scratching, truly baffling decisions. But the shoe might have been on the other foot- this project has been marked by little information, and lots of delays, so it wouldn't surprise me if the shown quality was not outright bad. Or- and this is a spicy one- the Type Moon post stated that "to take future expansions into account" they decided to change publishers and development structure. So it could be (and let me emphasize the very hypothetical nature here,) that one of the issues was post launch support...like, say, the rather salacious CCC- the sequel/expansion to the original that never got brought to the West. Maybe Bamco was ok with the base project but not whatever the new version of CCC was going to be, and they couldn't come to an agreement on that? That's all pure conjecture, of course.

I'm also team word salad on that, but I've had a lot of osmosis exposure from working at a store selling lots of Fate goods from some years ago. Here's my probably totally inaccurate interpretation as someone who also doesn't watch the franchise (please feel free to correct):
It's kinda like summoning the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with magic, only they're mostly figures from history. And the goal is to make your summoned historical figure fight on your behalf against other historical figures in proxy battles to win some kind of long-running war. I have no idea why anyone wants to win, or what purpose it serves. So I just pretend it's Highlander rules.
King Arthur is our main summon and is represented by a blonde lady in a blue armored dress. RPG rules are in effect so you have to pick what class Arthur will fight as. So now she's called "Saber" because she's a sword-wielding class. Other summoned heroes are also called by their class names, but the same hero can be summoned as a different class like swapping jobs in a Final Fantasy game or an action figure that now comes with kung fu grip. No, I don't know why they don't use their real names. Apparently it's a secret.
I have no idea why it seems there are so many different characters with the same design, but I hated looking up their names for inventory. Oh! And sometimes Illya is a magical girl.
So, how'd I do?

We'll see how optional it will be. Games are already developed around things like frame generation and existing technology like current DLSS/FSR to get results like 60 fps. If a game noticeably suffers when deactivated, how optional is it?
Currently, I think the thing that will limit its use the most is that it will only be available on 50 series cards, which are not only expensive, but being made by a company that has already said it is an AI company that would rather not focus on making consumer-level parts. It might not see much adoption at the developer level if most of their customers won't have access to it, let alone use it.

It's basically an information warfare thing. A level of fame/notoriety is a general pre-req for being a Heroic Spirit, which means that anyone who learns their name can pretty easily look up their life story to get idea of what strengths and weaknesses they might have (really more of a risk for the mythological characters, who get their myths played fairly straight, compared to a relatively historical servant where the writers had to get esoteric/symbolic to justify them having power at all).
Even the original FSN subverts the concept though, with Illya not bothering to hide that her servant was Heracles since he was too overwhelmingly strong for that knowledge to make much difference and Assassin introducing himself as Sasaki Kojiro right off the bat when preparing to fight Saber since he knew that he was minor enough that his name probably wouldn't mean anything to her.

It's just funny when the entire market from players to designers emphatically goes "No" and begins the sandbagging.

Think DLSS 5 only becomes funnier when dumb corporate nonsense has taken a technology intended to reduce load on weaker hardware and bastardized it into something that takes 2 5090s to function

Ahhh, all right. The older (and apparently now somewhat disliked?) Studio Deen show is the only core series I watched and I retained practically nothing from it since it didn't click with me and that was like 15-20 years ago now. I appreciate your explanation, so thank you.

The special website link just leads to a "not found" page, not sure if that's just my shitty internet or it's broken.
I have 3 favorite games of all time and those are Rune Factory 4, Fate Extra and it's sequel (kinda) Fate/extra CCC, and here they are being talked about in the same article! I wish it was good news in Extra's case but alas.
I'm glad I have a very zen mindset about game production and can take any delays in stride because this could have had devastating effects on my already brittle psyche otherwise.
I'll always have the original if nothing else.
Rune Factory 4 is probably the game I've replayed the most. It was the very first game I got in Japanese after having seen the japanese trailers. Games didn't get simultaneous worldwide releases back then and for the first time I knew I wanted to play this game with the original audio and the only way to get that was to get the japanese version. I had to go go to massive efforts to get myself a japanese 3DS, had to betray all my morals and stoop to using amazon for the first and only time in my life to get it. It arrived with only a belt of thin corrugated cardboard to protect it and served me well until some years ago when the battery started swelling and I desperately need a knew one but now they don't even make the things anymore, and Bergsala was of no help.
I think I had taken only a year of japanese then, so I could read katana and hiragana but only child levels of kanji, but the game was a great way to learn and it was so fun to play it over and over and being able to read more and more of it every time
I also love Iwasaki Minakos art and I wish there was more of it! I want some kind of massive Rune factory artbook! Marvelous please!
