aw, man...it's such a missed opportunity to bring up akemi aizawa from tomo-chan is a girl. i'd LOVE to hear your thoughts on that character. i feel like everybody needs a tomboy mother in their lives.

also, might be the worst pun i've ever said and is gonna sound super cringe, but i'm surprised yor mom is so popular...leaves the room

Sachiko is the Undisputed Best Anime Mom Ever and I will hear no arguments. But also shout-outs to Ragyo for being on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. Laughing

Rintaro's mom from The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity is among the best anime moms I've ever seen. Supportive without being intrusive or patronizing, she's a real rarity.

Kagome's mom is pretty great too, letting her daughter hang out with a half-demon boy in the Warring States era and trusting her judgement, while packing her lots of snacks and supplies and even fixing up a bike for her to take back. She gives new meaning to the concept of free-range kids.

Is there a shortage of Umineko fans here, or has everyone forgotten about Ushiromiya Rosa, Best Mom Ever?

I'm not sure how to feel about Chichi. Yes, Gohan is too little in early Z but Toriyama wrote the manga in a way Goku can't go to Namek first and the narrative forces the need of sending the 5 year old child to fight. The same thing is repeated in the Android arc which made me feel pity for her especially when Goku refuses to be revived and now Chichi has to take care of Goten without a husband. This one was just harsh and it didn't help the anime version used unfitting music. Kai repeats the same issue when Goku leaves with Uub since Toei had planned GT while the manga it was instead a normal ending for Goku and his gang which is reinforced in Toriyama's Neko Majin Z.

Such a fun article, another epic anime mom that could have been mentioned is Yuriko Gouda, mother of Takeo Gouda from "My Love Story!!", such a fictional super mum, who takes care of her family. 😊❤️

Sachiko has always been my go to for best Mom in anime. The moment for me was her love for her son and how she stood up for Kayo and gave Kayo's Mom a piece of her mind. She's the best! Oh, and I've been re-watching S3 of Chihayafuru and agree totally about Haruka, such a perfect characterization of a Mom juggling her love for her children and the game that she excells in; a wonderful character, (and what intense eyes!).

Hey, I was going to mention that.

Miyako Ishida deserves a mention considering her situation, as does Kyoko Honda.

A little surprised Oshi no Ko wasn't brought up, since it runs the whole gamut of mother characters who are good to bad to ugly to dead, sometimes all in the same episode.

One of my favorite anime mother characters will always be "Blaster Ririka" Kato from Bodacious Space Pirates, though. She raises her daughter well, allows her to be a space pirate captain (even introduces her to firing live energy weapons!), and can shoot things up plenty capably when needed.

Have to add my concurrence to Rintaro's mom Kyoko Tsumugi in A Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, she's such a great character I love her.

When talking about anime characters with Two Mommies and also Evil Anime Moms, I feel like there was a missed opportunity to bring up the Nanoha franchise, both with Presea Testarossa being up there on the list of Worst Anime Parents, and with Nanoha and Fate being moms for Vivio.
