Ok, hope you guys can help me out -
Does "Ghost in the Shell" the movie have anything to do with the tv series, or does it stand alone, is it an alternate universe or whatever? Also, Is "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence" an actual sequel to "Ghost in the Shell" the movie, or is it just the second "Ghost in the Shell" movie? Im asking because I own (but have yet to watch) GITS the movie and GITS SAC. Im going to buy GITS 2: Innocence, and I figured I would watch the two movies before the series. What order do you think I should watch them? Since I asked about those I might as well ask about GITS SAC 2nd Gig and GITS: Solid State Society. Does that movie stand alone, or does it tie in with 2nd Gig? Should I watch that movie before or after 2nd Gig. Thanks |

As far as the first movie and series go, no they don't directly tie in. Some of the characters are the same people, but in the series the events in the movie never happen.(Atleast, I don't think they could and have the series exist as it does)
I think the second movie is a continuation of the first. Not so much a "sequel" but the setting is the same and the events from the first are carried over unlike the series. *edit* Oh and yes for the series, GiTS:SAC -> 2nd Gig -> Solid State Society |

The end of second Gig implies that it's a prequel to the manga (and therefore to the first movie). As far as I can tell though, Solid State Society eliminates any possibility of continuity between the two.
You should watch the first movie first, and should probably watch the series in the order they were released (SAC-> 2nd Gig-> SSS), but you can watch the second movie whenever you want. It and the show are separate. |
