It does? Mines only has the English track. I thought I read somewhere that VHD: Bloodlust was done only in english. Question

Yeah, same here. I think Ed was thinking about the original Vampire Hunter D dvd. I think the movie was only done in english, since the foreign trailers on the disc use english voices. It really didn't matter to me, since I thought the english voices were done well, especially D's hand.

oh wait
I checked some sites and there indeed is a Japanese cast. Maybe it was like with Avalon?
VHD:B was animated with Japanese dub and later they dubbed it with English?

Kinda like with that awful Gundam movie G-Saviour. The actors originally spoke in english, and there was a japanese dub created later on.

yeah I guess it was somethign like that. Only the other way around

And in Avalon they filmed it in Polish and wanted to dub it in Japanese (but they never did).

Originally VHD:BL was English and only English.

After I bought the DVD, though, I didn't exactly read any news pertaining to the film, so there very well may have been a Japanese dub done after the original release.

But originally it was only English.

Syker Seven, remembers many upset fans at the IGN Anime boards over that.

I read in one of those morbid goth magazines that did an indepth look into VHD:B that there was a Japanese dub made later on, but it's only avalible for rent in Japan. >.> Not sure how much of this is true because I'm not sure of the sources in the magazine.

VHD was made in English, it was a co-production between Madhouse & Urban Vision. Tomino wrote the original script in Japanese, it was translated into English, and then Tomino himself tweaked the English script.

It was released in Japan and in America in English, the release in Japan was in English with Japanese subtitles.

Later, a Japanese dub was created for a Japanese DVD release. I believe that this Japanese translation was based on the final English script. At AX2002 Urban Vision said that they might eventually release a special edition Bloodlust DVD with the Japanese Dub on it.

I'm pretty sure that hasn't been released yet, and I've sent off an e-mail to UV to ask them about their current plans on this.

So, for now, I think the only way for you to hear the Japanese dub would be to import the R2 DVD... and I doubt it has english subtitles.

I went back and checked my DVD and Tempest is right - the DVD is English only ~ which means that I was wrong... gomen. The Japanese version that I saw was the orginal Vampire Hunter D.

Got a response from UV, they still haven't made any final plans regarding a special edition release. Sounds like if it does come out it'll be choke full of extras though.

There's an R2 VHD: Bloodlust boxed set coming out in Japan, which contains a DVD for the english version, a DVD for the japanese version, an extras disc, an OST and a book. Link..... somewhere.

VHD: Bloodlust isn't run-of-the-mill anime (neither was the first movie, but let's not go there right now) and I would think everyone, in general, would admit that there was no holding back on the quality of the voice acting (particularly since the English actors are THE voices, not dubbers).

What I would REALLY like to see is the entire VHD series of novels published in English - kind of figures that with the anime being popular, they'd at least try and squeeze some more cash out of us crazed fans with books to match. Everyone else does!

Now there's a task - how much would you pay someone to translate an entire novel from Japanese to English. Heck, I need to learn more languages...
