I have been wondering wether manga is better than anime. If you agree/disagree i'd like to know why.

Well, it depends in what you're assuming it's better in. I'm going to make the following of what I talk about be based around anime based off manga.
When it comes to story, 9 times out of 10 the manga is better. The manga is the original creation, which the author was free of episode limitations to build up their characters and story. Pretty much every manga-based anime removes some part of the original story to make it more fit for tv. Also, an anime
Artwise, manga us usually better as well. Depending on the manga-ka/artist, the art is considerably more detailed because animation demands simple artwork. A good example of this would be to look at a Yuu Watase anime, such as Fushigi Yuugi. Due to the very detailed character designs *aka, that hair mainly on the guys* they have to use a lot of still cells, because unless it's a big budget, drawing it moving all the time in anything close to the detail of the manga would just cost too much.
Another good things about manga is that usually the manga is out before the animation. Exp: Naruto. The Naruto anime is great in the fact it almost follows the manga word for word, the problems is that it has a ton of cliffhanger that just leave you hopping in your seat to find out what happens next. The manga, how ever, is several chapters ahead of the anime *think of a chapter = and episode*. By reading the manga, you can be weeks ahead of the anime, or perhaps even more.
Then of course there's the portable factor. You can't really carry an anime with you to watch on the bus, but you can a manga.
Now anime has good things about it too when it's based off a manga. For one, animation gives "life" to the characters in the manga. They move, and talk, and express themselves more easily, and they're in color.
In some cases, and animation can actually "officially" add to the original story with the manga-ka's consent.
Also, there's always music and direction to make the story more enjoyable, and usually an anime can create a fun retelling of a manga with different things.
This subject can be compared to "which is better, the movie adaption of a book, or the book."
Personally, I prefer the manga over the anime if the manga is the original story. The manga is usually longer, and I prefer more meat on my stories.

It all depends on your personal preference.

Or, depends on who likes reading at all. Some people would prefer to watch something rather then read, but then again, anime is more then manga.
With that in mind, I prefer manga, I can get more. More is good.

Going with what Legato said; some people also prefer to read certain genres while watch others. For example, watching action and reading romance.

Really, it depends on the individual title. One series might fare better in anime form than manga form, but another might work best as manga. All I can say is sample a title in both forms and pick the one you like best.

I'd say price is a huge factor. Manga is MUCH cheaper than anime, so that's always a plus. And to echo the others, it's all preference. Personally, I like being able to take my manga with me, but some anime have such good animation that it would be a shame to miss. Again, it all falls on you.

For me, it depends on the series. There are a few series I went to the anime because the show was paced faster than the manga. Then again there are other series that are the opposite.
In general I prefer shoujo/romance stories in manga form and action stories in anime form.
So yea, I guess it comes down to each series on an individual basis.

As said before me, it depends on if your the kind of person you are. Would you rather watch a movie about a story or read a book about that same story. I prefer watching. Im not into reading. But there are some stories that are just better to be read then watched. I liked the Love Hina as a manga more then it as an anime. And I've just started the Berserk manga, i already like it more then the anime. I suppose the manga just can go into more detail maybe.

Everyone else seemed to sum up the basics pretty well, so I’ll just add a few of my own examples.
Some manga is filled with a much longer and well-developed storyline than the anime. Manga like "Oh My Goddess", "Battle Angel Alita", and "Hellsing" are much better than their anime counterparts simply because they go on much longer in the story. That leaves plenty of time to accurately develop the characters rather than rush it into a short anime/OVA. Actually, I do believe that all three of these manga titles are still ongoing while the anime was finished long ago.
On the other hand, FLCL and Cowboy Bebop were better as an anime because, for one, they used music quite a bit. But also, I found the manga's art and storyline just weren't very good. Scryed is another one from the list of bad manga art. It was just too confusing to understand what was happening at times. The anime, however, had better art and it showed the action much better. Happy Lesson is yet another example of a bad manga/good anime. I thought the anime was funny, but the manga just seemed dull.
Obviously there are many more examples and the ones i listed are just my opinion. So once again it boils down to just a matter of preference. But with me, if I really like the anime, I’ll almost always try the manga (and vice-versa).

I don't find either of them to be better. If read and watch the manga and anime, I usually think of them as either a sequel, prequel or alternate telling of the story. Obviously, sometimes one of them is better, but Ithink of them as the same story on a different format.

It depends to me, really. I like being able to sit and read a good comedy or romance manga, but action just gets far too confusing, and has little dialogue (Minus Gunslinger Girl, which took me an hour and a half to read through, even though it's action). I prefer anime if it was made before the manga, usually-- like the Cowboy Bebop anime-- One of my favorites, but I hated the manga. Same goes for NGE.
Price is a big factor (As already stated four million times). I'm broke, so I rely on manga, which is a lot cheaper-- $30 for one Noir DVD is unreasonable to me (Though there isn't a manga of Noir that I'm aware of...). I've started to buy whatever's cheapest, or when someone offers to buy one for me, I go for something more expensive (Mean, I know, but I've gotta read it somehow. -_-).
I enjoy reading, so I like manga more. I can usually go through a GN in less than 30 minutes, so I hate having to go out and buy a new one every two days. (I've looked through my entire collection... $530 in the past year on manga alone)
Another thing is, I'll buy any manga that has good artwork, other than action. Since anime usually doesn't have so much attention with artwork, (and I'm broke) I usually buy manga (I think VIZ and TOKYOPOP could still put out manga with what I buy alone).
If an anime is completely ruined by a comapany like 4KIDS, and the manga of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Shaman King is available, you can get all the stuff that was cut out.
Manga is rarely aimed at "All Ages" nowadays, so many series are left the way they were in Japan, in all their violent and perverted (well, sometimes, anyways...) glory.
What about unflipping titles, which both VIZ and TOKYOPOP are currently doing? This restores the artwork, along with adding closer text to the Japanese (Ceres is an example; many of the "Ameriacan Pop Culure" dialougue was changed back [Like references to Christina Agulera (Sp.?) in volume one]). This made sales go higher, and titles that TOKYOPOP released as MIXX COMIX like Card Captor Sakura are being rereleased as "100% Authentic Manga" Style (Right-to-Left).
Anime, on the other hand, is very expensive soemtimes. I can't usually buy it, but I like to watch it on TV. Since I don't normally read action manga, and that's what's usually put on TV, I'm in luck. Action manga is too hard to follow in my opinion, and anime fixes that problem.
Anime DVDs usually come with Japanese audio tracks, so if the dubbing is horrible, you can just switch over to that and have subtitles. Manga, when having a bad translation, obviously cannot do that, and if you can't read Japanese, you're stuck with it unless you can find scalations.
Some anime turn out better than the manga they follow, but if the anime catches up with the manga, bye-bye anime, which usually ends after cathcing up (Ex: Hikaru no Go!).
The Gravitation manga did not have very good art. During certain... scenes... it was hard to tell what was a hand or foot, or which head belonged to which character. Anime can fix that with color, which would make manga more expensive in color pages (In some series, you can tell when a color page was put into black and white for a GN).
Anime sometimes leaves out characters, storylines, or scenes from the manga, or possiblly add more. And anime movies and TV specials can be produced, and OVAs as well. A good addition, if you absolutely love a series.
Music is one of the best part of some anime series. I love Inu-Yasha, but not really the anime. I watch the anime though, because it's available on TV (I'm so cheap), and I love the music. It all seems to fit in so well, and a lot of bands in Japan (Well, maybe not a lot) are recogniozed through the sings in the shows. The Pillows is a great example of this. Because of Fooly Cooly, a lot of people in the US (And other countries) people are buying their music online (Or just downloading it... Me, the Cheap One) and listening to it.
Overall, I prefer manga over anime. It's really not that one's better than the other, but the format that the genre(s) you like are produced better in.
Sorry for it being so long... My fingers are going numb...

I think it's a matter of preference, but I like manga much better than anime. Manga has better (more complete) stories in most cases. Also, only the most popular manga are converted to anime, so manga offers much more variety. Most shoujo manga will never be made into anime. For that matter, most shonen manga won't be, either.
But there are some exceptions, too. Many anime are original and don't have a manga equivalent (or manga was made after the anime because the anime was popular). In that case, anime is usually better.
Sometimes, the original is a novel which was adapted into both manga and anime. In that case, I like the novel the best (of course), but anime of good quality can be better than manga (for example: Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Heroic Legend of Arslan). Or anime quality can be so bad that manga is much better (for example: Hayou no Ken).
