so i was watching GTO on showtime last night, and they replaced the intro and outro with this crappy assed sounding punk band. and top of this there was the whole Initial D fiasco.
what the hell? is there a reason they do this? i don't see what purpose it serves other than screwing the consumer.

Hmm... is it showtime that is the reason behind this, or did you see something in the credits?
Let's not forget that it being on showtime isn't meant for the general anime fans. Even moreso, if you are a fan of the dub version, it isn't so screwed with on the DVD.

Well, all I can say about the dub, really, is that it doesn't do the show any justice.
If you're going to watch the series in English, I at least suggest you buy, rent, or borrow the DVDs and watch the dub with the subs ON.
The thing is when they wrote the script for the dub, they wanted to make it more for U.S audiences and put a lot of "American comdey" into it. I don't really like it though because it seems a lot more vulgar and too intrusitive for some of the scenes.
A few of my friends tried what I said (dub with subs) and they still liked it a lot anyway. They said, "there're some parts that are funnier in the dub, then there are some that are funnier in the Japanese version." (Those were the exact words).
Anyway, my only BIG problem with the dub though is the voice casting. I really like Steven Blum/David Lucas a lot, but I just don't think he can even compare to Wataru Takagi. Plus, it just seems more natural to hear them speak Japanese when the setting and jokes are ALL Japanese related. Ah well, it doesn't really matter what you choose. But I DO suggest you at least watch it once in Japanese sometime, and hopefully, you'll see what I mean.
Yoroshiku!

I wish Takashi Sorimachi did the voice for Onizuka in GTO...
Do you know what punk band they used for the outros and intros?
