I was going through the names of all the producers and whoever else comes up with the ideas for anime, and I noticed that the majority were all male... Now, does that mean the Manga/Anime industry find talent from the male perspective?
I'm just curious how many female artists have contributed to creating great anime. [EDIT - Topic adjusted, slightly. -C] |

CLAMP is an all female team. They have made Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, Magic Knight Rayearth, and X, to name a few.
Rumiko Takahashi is the creator of Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku, and Inuyasha. I know there are other females, but my knowledge of these things is still small, so just wait for another member to come. I know there's someone who can rattle off more. Also, you'd get more responses if your title was more descriptive. |

Yu Watase is one of the greatest. She created Ayashi no Ceres, Fushigi Yuugi, and several others.

Naoko Takeuchi created the Sailer Moon series, an extremely popular shoujo anime and manga.

o.O Wow... well... I read so much manga by female manga artist, that this surprises me. In fact, I'd put my money on their being more female manga artist then male because... well.. I don't really have any numbers or anything, but pretty much ever shoujo manga is written by a female artist, and shoujo manga and shonen manga are pretty split up evenly... though I suspect the number of shoujo manga might be higher, course this is just my own guess from my view, and also a nice percentage of shonen manga are drawn by females. But then again this is about anime that were originally created by females.
Female manga artist that have contributed to great anime: CLAMP Yuu Watase Naoko Takeuchi Yukiru Sugisaki *well, I think her anime versions of her manga are crap... but still, the manga is good enough in my opinion to put her up here* Natuki Takaya And I'm going to add Sakura Kinoshita because she is rather up and coming. She's only written two manga so far, and both have become popular enough to have anime produced of them. T.T Now if only they'd actually produce some Kaori Yuki anime that is not a crappy ova. Angel Sanctuary, being 20 volumes, needed to have a longer anime. If it did have one, you could probably count on it being one of the best anime around. Count Cain too would make an awesome anime as well. Female Muisc Artist: Yoko Kanno Kaijura Yuki Edit: I think CLAMP is especially noteworthy because I think the only manga artist to have more of their manga produced into anime then CLAMP is Osamu Tezuka. |

Yeah CLAMP is pretty famous for their works (Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits etc.)
Naeko Takeuchi is extremely famous for Sailor Moon and she is still making manga (Love Witch?) but none of them are as famous as Sailor Moon was. Last edited by Osaka on Sat Apr 10, 2004 8:14 am; edited 1 time in total |

I dunno... I'd probably have to agree that in male-dominated Japan, there probably are more male creators. OTOH, the more popular ones are made by female artists. I suspect this comes down the wire because IMO, the female creators have been better storytellers. I am more into the relationship, emotional sides than the action stylings, and I suspect that the majority lately have been others like me.
And to add in another author, I really like Arina Tanemura... I just wish Time Stranger Kyoko could get a proper anime telling too. |

Ah! I forgot about her! The few stories she's written have become really popular, though, with most Ribbon manga, they aren't really my cup of tea. Some more noteworthy names are: Miho Obana Yoko Matsushita Narumi Kakinouchi Wataru Yoshizumi and omg, can't believe I forgot this: RUMIKO TAKAHASHI Chiho Saito Fuyumi Ono |

Well, Rumiko Takahashi had already been mentioned earlier, so I don't think it's that you missed mentioning her, I just think your subconcious mind had already seen it and didn't bother listing it again.

The situation is the same in America as far as film creators are concerned. At the very least there are a lot more (successful) male directors than female.
