NGE is confusing, so is rahxephon and at moments, i find that Saikano can be confusing.

I find none of the aformentioned titles confusing, except for maybe Eva, but it's been over a year since I've seen the whole thing.

.hack//SIGN is easy, as is RahXephon, and Excel Saga practically has NO plot whatsoever except for that whole ACROSS world domianation thingy, which never really goes anywhere in the first place.

Boogiepop Phantom is also probably up there with Eva.

Even though they flash back to that episode about a thousand times in the course of the series?

Noiseman Sound Insect. Part of the confusingness might be because I saw Noiseman in raw Japanese, but it's still so crazy that FLCL is a sleep aid by comparison.

The Utena movie was confusing, too. I still can't figure out why anyone would put that bit with the car in a movie and how anyone can think that it's anything but the single stupidest scene in the entire history of animation.

I thought .hack//SIGN was pretty involved; I had to sit back and think about some of the stuff going on in that series.

The X movie was pretty roundabout; I'm glad I saw the series first.

Neon Genesis Evangelion had quite the number of biblical references; had to touch up on Babylonian mythology for that one.

hmm, I thought NGE had some Kabbalah and Judaica too ...

You know what confused my pants off? The first episode of Avenger. I had no idea WHAT the show was trying to be or where it was going. It was like, they had all sorts of genre elements that appeal to people, yet none of it made sense. That in itself is quite an achievement.

I can't quite agree with that. I missed the first two eps of .hack//SIGN the first time I saw it and was able to make sense of it in the end.

NGE does make sense, but it requires extensive extra homework and multiple viewings of some episodes. Yes, it does have references to the Bible, and to the Kabbalah, and Judeo-Christian mythology in general. It also has references to English poet Robert Browning (the NERV motto comes from his poem "Pippa's Passing"), gene splicing, particle theory, and child psychology, among other things. (AT Field stands for Anti-Terror Field, which is a psychological construct by which children shield themselves from traumatic experiences. Fits, doesn't it?)

Boogiepop Phantom also makes sense, but you have to watch it carefully and probably more than once.

RahXephon is probably the hardest series I've seen for completely puzzling it out - and again, I had to resort to outside resources.

Can't really agree on .hack//SIGN, but then again I haven't seen more than 5 eps.

NGE needed some serious thinking and ear sharpening (eye Razz) but I really enjoy stuff that makes you think hard. I took it as a challenge.
But nevertheless the two last eps and EoE messed my head up, I kept staring at nothing and I was generally unable to focus on anything else than thinking about NGE for the following days.

FLCL was not confusing in the same way. It's just really hard to understand and follow since stuff happens you don't even expect in childs cartoon on TV early in the morning, and worse Razz

Oh and Lain. But then again I haven't seen many eps. But at the time I wasn't as good at following complex plots as I am now.

Haibane Renmei is "lighter" than the others, but as I watched there was this itching feeling that it's much more deeper with much more philosophy and hidden meanings than could be seen at the surface. I just couldn't figure out what.

But as mentioned, nothing so far has messed me up more than NGE. That's why it's my all time favorite Very Happy

Lain is just as confusing the fourth time around as it was the first. I still can't make sense of certain scenes...
