I've been watching .Hack//Dusk for a while now on cartoon network and I just can't take the voice acting anymore. The voices for Shugo and Rena have got to be the worst and most annoying I have heard from a dub. Especially when they scream eachother's name like 20 times every episode. The wavemaster girl who's name is easily forgettable is damn annoying too. The only voices I can acutally stand in that series is the voice actor for Balmung (don't feel like looking his name up in the encyclopedia) and of course David Lucas. (or Steven Blum, whichever one you perfer) Is there anyone else out there who feels the way I do about the voice acting in this seemly worthless sequal to the very well done (depend on your opinion of it) .Hack//Sign. In my opinion this series should've never been made so everyone could just be content with the manga.

I agree. I only saw one episode in english and I thought it the voice actors weren't that good, but there's nothing much we can do. That's why, personally, I avoid most dubbed versions, rather sticking to the original japanese language.
Although, beyond that, the best dubbed versions are usually found in spanish, with the actors being on the mark most of the time to their characters personalities.

That's true. I know some spanish and I saw the Spanish dub of the Freeza saga in DBZ. IT's definately better than the english dub. I thoght Frieza sounded more like a bad guy in the Spanish dub than in the English dub.

I have the DVD and the dub didn't seem too bad, but of course I watched most of it in Japanese, so, , shows what I know.
Trust me though, I'm sure it isn't as bad as say, Love Hina, Angel Links or Saber Marionette (J, J Again, and J to X, all 3 of them stink in my opinion).

Coming from you, though, that's saying a lot. :p
But I do think the voices, no mater how you feel about the sound of them, fit all of the characters perfectly.

Balmung is the best character in the series in my opinion as well....*cough*avy*cough* Shugo and Rena both are fairly annoying; I was suprised to hear them when I first saw the dub on CN. I like Mireille's voice(the cute little wavemaster); she's like her counterpart was in the game. Ouka's VA was also pretty good from I have heard so far. As for the name-screaming thing, it was like Gundam Wing all over again:
"Heero!"
"Relena..."
"Heero..."
"Relena..."
You get the idea. It's fairly annoying; even more than Wing so because Shugo and Rena sound so off...

Rena voice really kills me. .Hack//Dusk is definitely an anime I could watch subbed. I got sick of Kite's voice in the video game too. Thank god they included that Japanese track.

Oh right, I forgot to address the repititious name calling. In the Japanese version, they refer to each other as "ni-san" and "ne-chan" (brother and sister), but for some reason, whoever wrote the dub and sub script decided to always call them by their first names, so yeah, bad-script-writer-guy is to blame.

Well, that might have more to do with the two languages. Anime would make it seem common to call siblings brother or sister; but in english how many of us actually say, "hey, brother, how was work?" We're more likely to call each other by first name.

True, but you can only call each other by first name so many times within 25 minutes, right?

I think that Ouka's and Balmung's voices were pretty good, and Merielle's (I think that's how you spell it) sounds exactly like I pictured it in the manga. Hotaru's doesn't bother me that much. But Shugo and Rena's voices? Blech.

Agreed. I'm not sure about Kamui's though; I think her VA was alright. I thought she would have more of a richer, sexier voice but I guess that's just me. And Balmung's VA would be the best in my opinion. No, I'm not biased...*hides avatar*

I think that they could have done a much better job for the voices of Rena and Shugo. They sound so annoy when scream each other’s name over and over again. Such as in the episode, where the party was leaving from the area and Shugo and Rena saw each other all they did was say each others names for about two minutes. I mean they could have switched it up a little by throwing brother or sister in there once or twice.
