I really hope the .au releases (starting soon) don't have the myriad of problems the US ones have had...

What's the difference between DD and DTS, anyway? 5.1 surround is still 5.1 surround, right?

I'm pretty pissed of their greed on this title. The first season will spand over 7 DVDs while its only 26 episodes...

I'm pretty sure BANDAI has always gone with 6 DVDs with that amount of episodes. Maybe its Manga that has talked them into this but i hate it. 3 episodes for the same price as 5 on a different anime is just bogus.

They may have paid more in licensing or other overhead costs. It's not necessarily greed, although that is one possibility.

Except Manga isn't involved with the production of the DVDs, they're only distributing them.

I don't think they paid any licensing fee. They were a part of the committee that produced it. But they may have invested a lot of money intro the production. Same result, slightly different explanation.

Even though Bandai was on the committee and as far as I can see was very closly involved with the project (ie internationl production and game) they still had to somewhere pay for the rights. That might have not been a sperate payment but could of taken form of as you point out, investing more money in production. Now personally I am not crazy about the SE/LE packaging of these I like getting the sound tracks but I would like to see a box to hold all 7 dvds.

Oh they probably will release a box, just not seperately. .hack//sign got LE DVD releases, then Bandai decide to release a Complete Collection Boxset, I don't think the DVDs included are the limited edition ones though (defeats the object of Limited edition if they are!)... just have to wait and see I guess.

I hate to see people complain about pricing on DVDs and per disc episode count.

Would you rather pay $35-60 per DVD with only 2 episodes per disc like R2 Japanese do?

Typical Japanese anime DVDs have only 2 episodes for TV and 1, very seldom 2, on OAVs.

I rather pay about $20 a DVD with 3-4 episodes than $45 a DVD with only 2 episodes.

They also don't have to buy all their anime, it shows on tv.
