Keep hoping that it'll beat YuGiOh, but that train probably left a long time ago. As it is, $400,000 ain't bad for a movie people would rather see on DVD.

It's been doing absolutely brutal overall since Lorax was released.
It may not even hit 20 million. I had hopes it would crack 25 million, but its per theatre average--heck, overall intake--just completely nosedived the weekend The Lorax came out. It may not have the same staying power as Ponyo did. Even though Ponyo made less overall (albeit in about 600 less theatres), it at least was in the theatres for a couple of months.

I was the only one in the theater when I saw this, usually I like that kind of movie going experience. However wanting Arriety to do well I was disappointed but not surprised. If it's not blindingly colorful, loud with mildly lewd and comically violent it had no chance at attracting a large movie going audience. I hope the home release sales do well for Disney so they continue to release past and future Ghibli projects here in the US and abroad.
