I skipped corporate for this reason. Almost all booths were having queues outside west hall it seemed and would be next to each other making it confusing to get in.

The picture for the sold out Is The Order a Rabbit? blanket is actually from Getsuyoubi no Tawawa. So either wrong picture or wrong anime listed. Either way both are popular so I am not surprised it sold out fast.

My friend waited 6 hrs in line for Yuri on Ice merchandise to find out that it had been sold out. I guess the line was so long that she never even made it inside the building. Crazy isn't it.

It seems like they need to do something along the lines of how Disney handles queues for their most popular attractions, giving out tickets and estimated wait times. That frees people up to go look at other stuff and buy at places with lesser lines, so everybody wins (so I've heard - never experienced it in action myself). But it sounds like it just gets worse every year, and it's going to hurt them sooner or later if they don't fix it. Even just a "Now Serving #___" ticket system would be an improvement. If my local deli can do it, they should be able to.

That's how a lot of the most popular actual doujin groups have started doing it in recent years: Even if you line up super early you can't get certain goods unless you have a numbered ticket, and they give out the tickets prior to comiket at other events/locations. So to get the most sought-after new books/games requires a two step process now. The industry booths are not going to be that organized unfortunately. I know from experience behind the scenes that the people working at those booths loathe comiket... It's some of the worst days of the year for those people... one of the worst retail experiences you can have. It's not like the doujin circles where people actually care about their own product, either. The industry booths are staffed by low-paid part timers and employees of the company who drew the short straw that year. |

Maybe they wouldn't loathe it so much if it were organized. I don't blame them for hating it since they have to deal with person after person after person short-tempered and cranky from waiting hours in line. It's a lose-lose situation for everyone involved. |

True, I went to Summer Comiket this year (amazing experience) and the long queue only happen in corporate booth and the popular circle (the famous wall circle). Good thing I went for the less popular artist. Meet a lot of favorite doujinka, I even made small talk. Best thing happened to me in 2016.
Very informative, first time I heard about the later paragraph. Thanks for sharing. |

It's good thing that I'm not crazy about dojinshi. Standing long line and finding out your desired merchandise/book is sold out are not fun experience.

With Comiket being bogged down with unbelievably long lines every year, I'm more than enough satisfied to simply admire doujinshi on the Internet instead...

Comiket is an experience, and queuing for hours is arguably the biggest part of that. It's a weird kind of camaraderie that you feel by hunkering down in those long lines with fans just as eager and excited as you, if not moreso. Still, if you really don't feel like doing that (and there are plenty that don't take part in comiket) then you just hit up places like Toranoana and Mandarake in the days / weeks / months after. |
