I feel like this remix says a lot about what this adaption is going to probably be like: a new take on a classic anime that has moments like the original, but is still very Hollywood. At least it has those moments...

I'm going to see the movie for what it's meant to be, a source of entertainment, something to kill time with, and finally something to distract myself from my shitty day/month/year where I'm more stressed and worn out than relaxed. but personally the remix did Not do it for me

Less and less impressed with every new clip and trailer that comes out… Looks like they've sucked out the edge and the musings about the definition of humanity for a standard, techno-themed conspiracy theory.
If we want live action, perhaps we should go back to Blade Runner? |

Man, I don't think Motoko was naked even as much in the original movie as she was in this trailer. I'm starting to think this movie is just an elaborate excuse to get Scarlet Johannson to kick people's asses in the nude. I'm sure that's a lot of people's fetish anyway.
No Hollywood adaptation of any anime will ever be able to capture the subtle messages of the original. In case you haven't noticed, Hollywood never really did "messages" in the first place. |

That more or less remains to be seen because I have seen plenty of trailers not truly represent the final product to write off things completely, and I wanna root for this one. However, I'm not that naive. This film may very well lean more towards the cyberpunk action movie side of the franchise, which to be fair, could still be a fairly entertaining movie in its own right. I'm not the biggest GITS fan, but I still enjoy the original film and always kinda figured this adaption won't be as cerebral. Hell, I don't think any incarnation beyond the 1995 film has really clicked on the same level. Speaking of Blade Runner though, I kinda wish Ridley Scott would just leave that alone. He just isn't the same director who made things like Alien anymore, and this sequel already ruined quite a bit of that story. With Harrison Ford reprising his role as Deckard, then all that fun speculation and mystique about him being a replicant himself has just been destroyed because he's obviously lived beyond the replicant's known life span. |

Captain America: Winter Soldier, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Inside Out, Zootopia, and now Logan would like to have a word for you. And that's just the ones from this decade off the top of my head. Yes, there's plenty of blockbusters with no so-called "message" (but that's not necessarily bad, Tolkien flat out said there's no message to Lord of the Rings, and I'll take a well-executed narrative with no "message" over a poorly-executed narrative that does have one) but there are definitely some exceptions. Besides, hardly every anime has a message. Yes, Dragonball: Evolution was terrible but not because of the lack of "message" since that was hardly a feature of the original source material. |

I hope they make the whole deal wiht motoko's personality and situation the work of a hacker. it's a really stupid change that pretty much ruins the character otherwise.

I am still reserving judgment until the actual movie appears, but hope is dwindling. The 'working for people who are manipulating you' plot is something that has been done and redone--not to mention Hollywood origin movies. But maybe they'll surprise me; it's not an impossibility. Re: Blade Runner… I kinda do, too, though I'm curious as to what kind of script would entice Mr. Grumpy-Old-Man back into the fold. Pretty sure he doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want to at this point. As far as is he/isn't he for Deckard… If he is, he's obviously an 'outlaw' production, and so who knows what his specs are? (As an aside, I think a return of E.J. Olmos would be intriguing. Ah, well, a girl can dream…) |

On a lighter and less angry note I posted about the dubstep production and butchering of the original Kenji Kawai's soundtracks.....
... I did see some great clips on what the Weta Workshop is doing with the Geisha dolls and it blew me away. There's a real detailed version on Adam Savage's Tested in this youtube link below.
