They didn't license the 2nd half? That make me really sad. Kodocha ended getting a bit lost in the cracks for me but the 4 volumes I have it were pretty good all in all. Not having the 2nd half is going to hurt the value of the previous discs too as people avoid an incomplete series. I hope funimation ends up getting the 2nd part, but sadly Kodocha always seemed like one of those late anime boom licenses that would never happen nowadays.

Well one thing I noticed,at least within my general neck of the woods, is that the first few volumes of Kodacha were easy to find. However, volume 5 just never showed up in stores (Best Buy in particular). And let's face it, Best Buy is a good place to hit for anime. If Best Buy doesn't have it, and every other place charges you roughly about $30 a pop, the desire to continue a certain series kind of dampens. Granted there's the internet but even that can get a touch pricey.
I've been keeping up with the series fairly well, though. It's kind of depressing to think that the second series may not get licensed. I have to say it's one of my favorite shojo series. I love it, and any of my friend who've seen it love it too. To be perfectly honest, there isn't an episode of Kodocha that I haven't enjoyed.

I'm not sure if it's because of limited availabilty that the sales have gone down, or if it's because the sales have gone down that there's a limited availability. Who knows, maybe it's something completely different.

Are you sure it was Season 2? (i.e. Were they wearing the middle school uniforms?) If so, that's a very positive sign, as I can't see why they'd do that without having the title confirmed..

Hunh. There may be hope yet.

I gotta say, I've seen the whole thing & from what I remember, the second half really disappointed me. I love Sana & Akito's chemistry spoiler[so when they split them up & put them on two completely different continents in the latter episodes, it just spoiled it for me. Naozumi is a sucky Akito replacement.] I know I'd buy the next season just to support the anime but I would probably watch very little of it Sad

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I can scan the page where they said they were screening it, if you'd like.

That would be nice, if it's not too much trouble -- I have friends who would love to hear the news, but they'd probably demand more proof than "I heard it on a forum."

Sorry for the poor quality, and my evidence isn't really all that informative.

I'm pretty sure that by "season 2", they mean volumes 7-13 (aka, FUNi's second box of Kodocha).

Man... I've had the first three DVDs for a long time... I bought the first volume box and everything. I've been looking forward to getting more of it, but the money and availability hasn't been spectacular so I haven't been able to. It doesn't help that the older gift-giving folks don't believe in online shopping. I certainly plan on catching up and it'd be a bummer to only have half of it when all is said and done... this is such an excellent series from what I've seen and the reviews have been pretty darn good, too.

Probably. I recall them referring to the second half of the series as "Seasons 3 and 4" in the past.

I was committed to buying every disc of this as it came out, but that only counts for so much...it's still the longest series I've ever collected disc by disc as it was being released. (FMA ties it, but I got most of those discs on sale when vols. 1-9 were out.)

Not to mention, the events in those episodes are from episodes 8-11 or so, pretty early on in the series. I suspect it's a mistake in the program guide from the con. To confirm it, I watched through episodes 52-55, and in those spoiler[the gang starts middle school, Sana meets a new female friend who has a bone to pick with Akito, Sana and Akito attempt to sort out their feelings for each other, and Sana leaves to shoot a movie on location for a few months.] Good thing I kept the DLed version around on the HD because of the music changes and audio drops. I have to say I was impressed with the dramatic content on this "final" volume -- it's at or above the levels achieved early on with Sana's "fixing" the Hayama family and the story about the circumstances of Sana's birth. I don't remember much of a tearjerker factor between episodes 25-45, but this season went out with a bang.

I wasn't blown away by the English dub, though. It's admirable that they worked out all the jokes and songs, but a lot of the writing felt more like "oh shoot. let's find something that works" rather than equaling or improving on the original script like many other Funimation dubs. I actually found myself liking Babbitt in the Japanese version, but the voice and the rewrites make him much more annoying in English. And the name mispronunciations rubbed my purist fur the wrong way with this show. Still, I'd like to see a dual-language continuation if Funi manages to continue the releases - I'd still watch an episode here, an episode there in English.

Oh, I see. Sad Ah well. I was really looking forward to more Kodocha.

I liked the english dub. Laura Bailey had a really good sort of manic energy with Sana and also, she could be dramatic too. I found it more appealing than the sub, even though Babbit's voice is so much better in Japanese.

Enh. I found Babbit annoying in either language.
