At first glance, that seems surprising since Studio Kai has been more active lately, and they did a great job with Sentenced to be a Hero. But, I'm also reminded of the stories from people who run studios about how this season's project is paying last season's bills.

...this reminds me of something...even if your studio has a hit like sentenced to be a hero, you can STILL end up getting tripped by something...

it's like bf6 all over again.

How about 10% of the anime revenue for the studio in charge even if the studio is not on the commitee?

These folks on the commitee won't releash even 5% of the income, they're so greedy...

It's a big investment, sure, but some of the revenue going to the studio wouldn't hurt all these investors.

If they are so scared, they can begin with 3%. Better than nothing.

Not entirely sure what's being reported here.

It's important to point out this a balance-sheet insolvency, meaning the studio has more debt than assets. This does not mean it cannot pay its debts on time or that it must enter bankruptcy.

In fact, Studio KAI has reported balance-sheet insolvency for most of its history, Gamebiz.jp has reported this from the first time they've covered KAI's yearly reports for 2021 and it seems to me it was the case for 2020 as well.

So, it seems this is more a detail of how ADK Emotions (Japan's third largest advertising agency and KAI's sole owner) is managing the finances inside their company group and not indicative of how successful or profitable KAI's business actually is for the whole group.

Dang.

I really liked Fuuto PI and Sentenced to Be a Hero

Bummer. I even got the art books for Fuuto PI from their store.

The company officially applied for bankruptcy protection with the Japanese government (The Kanpо̄ gazette is where government notices are published), its similar to filing for Chapter 11 in the US. Temporary protection from creditors seizing assets while they try to find a buyer or a new source of funds.

Can you point me to the bankruptcy filing? All I'm seeing in the Kanpo source ANN linked is the yearly financial results report (決算公告). Which they publish every year and I don't see anything different from the reports of the previous years (besides the numbers).
