Sweet! I'm so glad you guys started to do summer guides. Looking forward to Shiki and now Occult Academy, once non-CR members can see it. I watched the first two minutes of Occult Academy (all non-members can see for now), and it looks good and just downright pretty.

Just looking over the summer anime didn't really pull out anything much, so I'm hoping there are some more good surprises (Occult Academy is one so far).

Lol...I'm still confused whether Zac likes typical zombie gorn or not.

I know his "rating" is more or less, if you like zombies, ten out of five, if you don't, FUUUUUUU!

But I still wanna know his standing. :3

I definitely have to check out Occult Academy, got good ratings so far and seems pretty unique. I saw the first episode of HOTD and it was alright, I would agree with the 3/5 rating.

You guys are definitely right about High School of the Dead. Virtually all zombie media fallows that exact same plot sooner or later, but it's how it's presented and handled, too.
Not only that, but I really can't think of any manga or anime series that focused specifically on a zombie apocalypse, so this is welcoming for me and others who eat this up. Sorry, but, yes, I am one those people who will watch, read, and play anything involving zombies! Fortunately, most of the materials are interesting at the very least.

I loved HSotD. Maybe it's because I haven't watched anything remotely horror since I was 10, but even if I had, it wouldn't be less fun. Between tits and brains flying everywhere, there's always a grin on my face.

I also found it surprising how it has all that fanservice, but no jokes. I really like that, honestly. To see a big boobed girl hug a guy and to see him NOT break out into a nosebleed was really refreshing.

However, I see that it could potentially make a visit into Dullsville with the Tiffania wannabe and the tsundere. Hopefully, though, there will be enough blood and guts that it won't be too distracting.

PS: I love how Gia labeled that bitch as "Best Character". I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a good belly laugh out of that scene.

So, what made you guys decide to do this 4 times a year, as opposed to twice? Not that I'm complaining, I find some of Zac's reviews a hoot. Too bad there doesn't seem to be anything disasterously bad this season.

I hadn't planned on watching Occult Academy -- let's just say the Anime no Chikara block has burnt me twice, and it's only two seasons old -- but Zac's review at least makes me want to check it out. I'll pray it doesn't crash like Night Raid did about 4 episodes in.

Well, there are four seasons in a year, and Japan launches pretty much all of their new shows along with those seasons, much more strictly than the US does. Not to mention most of the shows are only one season/13 episodes long now...if we did a spring/summer season preview, the spring shows would all be over when the summer ones were just starting up.

From Gia Manry's Occult Academy review:
"All in all the episode is strongly animated (as expected from MADHOUSE) and surprising in content, which in and of itself may set it apart from the rest of the season. "

Occult Academy is being animated by A1 Pictures, not Madhouse.

By the way, the reviews were good. I especially liked Zac's HSD review, since it summed up my thoughts perfectly.

Personally, Highschool of the dead doesn't even need to show flashes of panties and bras etc etc etc for the show to be a successful. *Sigh* Why can't it just be a show like "When they cry" I can only hope from here on out that the show will die down the "ecchi" crap?

Wohoo, I love these reviews and thanks so much for expanding them to the summer season! Really excited to see Occult Academy now and, since I am over the whole zombie thing, think I'll skip High School of the Dead for now.

(And zombies are totally fanservice these days, just for very specific fans)

That role belongs to the new anime "Shiki"

You should stop watching. It just gets more and more bloody/ecchi.

Yay! A Summer guide. I look forward to every single review that comes out. I'm also glad to see the positive feedback toward Occult Academy as I found it surprisingly as well. Just for the lolz, I want to see Zac's review of "Mitsudomoe" because his reviews are just that awesome for example,

Yeah, I totally prefer my zombie stories to be classy and highbrow.

I'm curious, did FUNi plan to stream Sekirei season one at all? If not, how can they expect anyone to watch S2 streamed? Fansub watchers gonna watch fansubs, and I don't imagine people would want to jump into the series midway.

And you're complaining about an anime adaptation of a manga that's absolutely rife with sex, nudity, orgies, rape, and other things.

Hey that's what happens when the Zombie Apocalypse happens, you know you're going to give everything they got including fanservice. In reality that what it is.

I really love High School of the Dead.

You do know that Highschool of the Dead is written by a guy who does Hentai doujinshis don't you? I am sad to see that Inazuma didn't include humor in Highschool of the dead because his Gundam Seed Destiny hentai doujinshi was quite funny.
