The Citytv links refers to him as a legend, I agree. Television in the city won't be the same without him.

When I read the headline, I thought to myself, "it can't be that Mark Dailey, could it?"
And it was.  I had no clue that he did voice acting for anime before this.
He had one of the most distinctive voices in Canadian news, and was a pleasure to listen to. He will be sorely missed. May this great broadcaster rest in peace. |

I had no idea he did voice acting. Actually, I must admit, I didn't really know who he was but I definitely know his voice. CityTV really won't be the same without him.

His voice acting will probably be what he's least remembered for. He did a lot of announcing for CityTV, particularly their movies, aside from being the lead journalist.

His voice is so memorable from all his City TV work. He always did the 11pm news. And all there promotional voice work. I wish this best for his family in this hard time. He will truly be missed.

This is a sad day in Toronto. I knew he voiced Rokusho on Medabots but I didn't know he was Brad Best.
but still, this is really sad to hear he's gone.

That marks at least the third recent person connected to anime that has passed away from cancer (Satoshi Kon and Umanosuke Iida being the previous two, and we were just coming out of a past few weeks of cancer awareness). I would have never expected a veteran reporter to moonlight in something so disparate as voice acting (much less anything else along those lines). My condolences.

My sincere condolances to his surviving family and friends. @Sam Murai: There's nothing "desperate" about been a voice actor. It's an art that you should try doing, if you think you can. The only difference between an actor and a voice actor is one is in front of the camera, the other is not.

Very sorry to hear this. As a Torontonian (for the last 17 years), naturally I was very familiar with Mark Dailey's voice, although I had no idea he was a VA, too. Makes sense, though.

Everyone in here who lives in Toronto or has lived here some time in the past 30 years will know just how big a loss this is to our city. He was that big a part of it. I didn't even know he did anime...but no doubt, his voice was a big part of what made him a local legend.
I grew up listening to him. In a way, my connection to him is much the same as a person in the 1950s listening to a local radio personality every day-- except he was on TV--presenting us the daily news at either 6:00pm and more usually 11:00 pm (he was a great guy to listen to late at night) or hosting bad late night movies at 2:00am with his requisite good humour. Americans here probably won't know just how loved he was in Toronto and how we identified with him as part of the city. |

Although I'm not from the GTA (we only received a local Citytv in 2005, and I only started getting the Toronto station in 2006), Canadians have identified with Mark Dailey for many years as an announcer of cable channels such as MuchMusic and Space (the CTV buyout ended this). He was the main announcer for all five of the Citytv stations, so I'll miss him as much as Toronto does.
I would also recommend going over to Retrontario for tons of classic Mark Dailey clips. |
