The anime had the same ending. I also found it pretty shallow. I think we're supposed to think Koko is being heroic, but mostly I think she looks silly.

Caspar even tells her that it doesn't matter spoiler[if she destroys the GPS network, because HCLI started with ships that didn't rely on GPS.]

FWIW, US air traffic doesn't rely on satellite communications. It's totally ground-based. Other countries think we're backward for that (and because our credit cards still use mag stripes, but different topic), but I guess we'd survive Koko's plan.

My perspective is coming from the anime side of things. I wasn't a fan of how they ended the series; they certainly did raise some good, thought-provoking questions, and it seemed like they were going to do something with them...But instead of exploring those plot threads, they just spoiler[had a homesick Jonah come back to the gang and Koko continued with her plan]. It was definitely one of those "that was it!?" kind of endings. It felt like none of the problems from the previous episode were really resolved, they just sort of gave up.

Nah, Koko is fully aware of how insane the plan is, but I really don't think she cares. I believe it was purposefully left open ended so we as the reader/viewer could draw our own conclusions to what might end up happening.

Sigh. Bringing human civilisation down would not result in peace. I guess Koko is so loco she forgot to read her history books; they're full of wars. (Heck, if you believe the History Channel, then the Second World War took up something like half of all human history. LOL. And they didn't have computers back then, not microprocessor-equipped ones at any rate.) Also, if she thinks only 700,000 lives will be lost to her plan then she's a moron. She's going to collapse the world economy causing huge job losses, riots, and famine. Millions of Africans will die from lack of food aid when it dries up from developed countries. Countries will have to go to war to secure basic resources. The world is only going to get more unstable, not less.

I gave up on the Anime after a few episodes because it was so naive and juvenile and stupid. I must be prescient or something, but even I didn't realise just how F-awful it gets.
