While I don't intend to see the film or is anime counterpart, I find it interesting that they choose to a live-action adaptation of a porno anime which I think is the type of anime that wouldn't need a live-action version (this goes to any adult anime).

There is a non-pornographic cut of the original movie (technically a two episode OVA), you know.

Besides, sanitized anime adaptations of what were originally ero games (and that means they're pornographic if you're not familiar with the term) have been a staple of anime for the past decade. Hence I don't see why this would be any bigger of a deal even if the wasn't an R-rated cut of it.

also, the reason hte originla anime was porn was because of financing, in a way teh real director's cut was the one with the porn, the porn was added to hentai producers would chip in so the anime could be created at all.

I bought this disc sight unseen, partly because Samuel L Jackson is in it. It was a mistake - this is not very good. I liked the anime, but the live-action loses much of the style.

I'd have rated it as a D, rather than a C.

Why don't you need to see the film? Also, it's not a wall-to-wall pornographic hentai or anything. Most of it is action. Er, violent action. It's a very well animated film.

Maybe they felt that they needed to adapt it because people don't want to watch an anime with pornographic content in it.

Well, I'm pleasantly surprised to hear it's not a total disaster.

I love how the review can be summed up as "10/10 not a catastrophe"

Because I don't lean towards that type of mature anime (fanfics are another though).

Good to hear it wasn't horrible. I'll give it a try, but definitely won't buy for the current price.

I bought this combo pack for $17 at a Wal-Mart. What would you consider a "reasonable price," then?

And maximilianjenus, I have no idea where you're getting that "10/10" from.

For something like this? $4.99 in a bargain bin sounds like where it's headed.

one info bub. kite aint a hentai movie. nor was mezzo forte. both were originally meant to be high violent and high sexual like ninja scroll. which when it was originally released in the 90's it was completely edited. however the one your talking about was the director's cut version becuase umetsu didn't wanted those scenes there. and in a sense probably the reason why he ok'd the mezzo dsa tv series and the liberator movie which have heavy violence but nothing like in the 90's and none of the scenes that unfortunately gave some people the impression that the movies were hentai.

regardless , it too bad that this movie is another long line of live action US based movies that are mediocre at best. though at least it is not god forsaken awful aka DB Evolution

but i kinda knew this was gonna happen cause they unfortunately americanized the movie from the original which is an auto turn off for those in the otaku community. the other is as the reviewer says. looks really bad like a low budgeted independent film. but when you have a rep like Kite , that is unfortunately the result. and cause of that, dont expect any news of a live action movie of mezzo forte cause it will never happen unless its NC-17
