"Food Chain" competed in this year's Annecy, after "Kick-Heart" competed in 2013

"Food Chain," the animated Adventure Time episode directed by Masaaki Yuasa (Ping Pong, Kick-Heart, The Tatami Galaxy), will run on the Japanese version of Cartoon Network on July 11.

The episode competed in the TV Films category of Annecy, the world's oldest and largest animation film festival, this past week, although it did not win an award. Annecy had also screened "Kick-Heart," Yuasa's anime short funded via a Kickstarter campaign, in 2013. "Food Chain" earned an Annie Award nomination earlier this year.

Yuasa personally attended this year's Annecy festival. He noted that by coming to Annecy, it is easy to see and appreciate the various methods of animation that cannot be seen by staying in Japan.

Yuasa's Ping Pong television series won the Animation of the Year award in the Television category at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival this year. Upon accepting the award, Yuasa announced that he is making a new original anime film with animation director Nobutake Ito (animation direction and character designs on Ping Pong, The Tatami Galaxy, Giovanni's Island)
