Singapore's Sparky Animation co-produces One Stormy Night & Tocori the Ghost for TV

Tetsuro Amino (Shiki, Macross 7, Mobile Suit SD Gundam Mk II - V) will direct a new computer-animated television series based on Yūichi Kimura's Arashi no Yoru ni (One Stormy Night) children's books. In collaboration with the Japanese companies Duckbill Entertainment, Baku Enterprise, and Bandai Visual, Singapore's Sparky Animation is producing the program slated to begin airing on TV Tokyo in April 2012. This will be the first co-production with three Japanese companies for a Singapore animation studio.

The now bankrupt Group TAC produced the first anime film adaptation of One Stormy Night (pictured) directed by Gisaburô Sugii in 2005. The press release for the new animated series describes it as follows:

Through an unlikely friendship between a goat and a wolf, One Stormy Night is a heartwarming children's story that explores themes about acceptance, loyalty despite differences, and highlights the important message that those from different backgrounds or cultures can be accepting and develop into the very best of friends.
Kodansha published the first book in Kimura's original adventure series in 1994, and the seventh book was was released in 2005. Arashi no Yoru ni has sold over 3.5 million copies in Japan and received theater, drama CD, and video game adaptations.

Sparky Animation is also joining the Tokyo-based animation studio DRAWIZ to produce an original computer-animated series with the tentative title Tocori the Ghost. The story centers on the adventures of a boy and his new ghost pal as their friendship develops. The animation co-production's announcement provides no slated release date.
