Design contest held until February 23 for Nico Nico Douga web game "Petite★Rock Shooter"

Nico Nico Douga and Imageepoch launched a Black Rock Shooter avatar illustration contest on Thursday to commemorate the one year anniversary of the Nico Nico Douga web game "Petite★Rock Shooter." The game features super-deformed versions of the characters in the Black Rock Shooter franchise.

The theme of the contest is "clothing you'd like to wear on an adventure." Entrants have until February 23 to submit an originally-designed avatar for the contest. The winner of the contest will have his or her avatar featured in the game itself.

Nico Nico Douga's Nico Nico Channel began streaming the Black Rock Shooter television anime series worldwide with subtitles in eight languages on Friday. A Black Rock Shooter event at the Nicofarre event hall was also held in Tokyo on Friday.

The 8-episode anime premiered in Fuji TV's Noitamina timeslot on February 2.

The franchise already inspired an original video anime by Shinobu Yoshioka, figures, and games. The artist ringo launched the Black Rock-chan four-panel manga in the inaugural issue of Kadokawa Shoten's 4-Koma Nano Ace magazine in March, and Sanami Suzuki (Net Ghost Pipopa) launched another Black Rock Shooter ~Innocent Soul~ manga in Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine in June.
