2nd Madoka Magica Film Uses Kalafina's 'Hikari Furu' Song

posted on by Egan Loo
Trio behind TV anime's "Magia" contribute new song to October 13 film

The official blog of Japanese trio Kalafina announced on Friday that the group is contributing their new song "Hikari Furu" as the theme of Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica Kōhen: Eien no Monogatari (Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part II: The Eternal Story), the second Puella Magi Madoka Magica film. The film's creators had announced in July that the teenaged female duo ClariS and Kalafina were providing theme songs for the films.

The song ClariS is providing for the first film's theme is "Luminous," and it has already appeared in the previews for the films. However, Kalafina's earlier "Magia [quattro]" song has been used so far for the previews instead of "Hikari Furu":

Kalafina's Wakana, Keiko, and Hikaru debuted in 2008 with "oblivious," the first of seven ending theme songs for the Kara no Kyōkai - the Garden of sinners anime films. Yuki Kajiura, a veteran composer of such anime as Noir, .hack//SIGN, and Tsubasa Chronicle, put together the Kalafina group and writes the music. Since 2008, Kalafina have performed theme songs for several other anime, including "Magia" in the original Madoka Magica television series, Black Butler, and Fate/Zero.

The first film of the Madoka Magica trilogy, Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica Zenpen: Hajimari no Monogatari (Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part I: The Beginning Story), will open on October 6. The second film will then open on October 13, and the "Hikari Furu" song will go on sale on October 24.
