Uma Musume Pretty Derby Cast, Staff Reveal Details of Anime's World

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

A special AbemaTV livestream program revealed secrets from the world of the Uma Musume Pretty Derby anime on Saturday.

Azumi Waki (voice of Special Week), Chisa Kimura (Daiwa Scarlet), Yukiyo Fujii (Tazuna Hayakawa), the anime's content producer Akihiro Ishihara, and TOHO producer Jun'nosuke Ito appeared on the program. During a "question corner" segment, they revealed that:

  • There are no normal horses in the world of the anime
  • Uma Musume can run on walkways
  • There are cases of relationships between humans and Uma Musume
  • There are no Uma boys
  • The fathers of Uma Musume are a secret
  • Uma Musume are like elves
  • There is no betting with an Uma Musume race; it's something like watching sports
  • Some Uma Musume are active in other competitions
  • There are training center academies outside of Tokyo
  • There are Uma Musume who are not good at running but like singing (in the game), and also vice versa

The anime premiered on April 1, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs.

Cygames' Uma Musume Pretty Derby game is currently in development, with a planned release on iOS and Android in 2018. The game's concept begins with Uma Musume (Horse Girls), girls endowed with excellent running capability, and who aim to become top idols and compete in the national sports entertainment show "Twinkle Series." Players take the role of both teacher and trainer for the girls in the Nihon Uma Musume Training Center Gakuen (Japan Horse Girls Training Center Academy) and help them make their debut.
