Espeon, Umbreon Trainers Join Eevee Character Design Project

Penguin Drum's Lily Hoshino, Occultic;Nine's pako design latest characters

Project Eevee is a special spin-off merchandise campaign dedicated to Pokémon's most evolved monster. Merchandiser MOVIC is helping support the venture by enlisting popular illustrators to draw trainer companions for the different evolutions, and the first round debuted in late April, followed by two more earlier this month. Artists Yumenōchi, Dan Ichikawa, Kuraen Mori, Mengo Yokoyari, Nachi Aono, and Nakahara designed the trainers for Vaporeon, Glaceon, original Eevee, Sylveon, Jolteon, and Flareon.

Joining the crew are Espeon and Umbreon with their respective trainers Asuka Chinen and Raito Akutsu.

Espeon and Asuka Chinen were designed by manga artist Lily Hoshino, known for her original character designs for Kunihiko Ikuhara's Pengiun Drum anime and the upcoming Tsukumogami Kashimasu anime series. Asuka is described as a "strange guy" with cat-like eyes. He is one of his school's best students and belongs to the paranormal phenomenon research club. He loves strawberry candy and has a weakness for guys with ESP abilities. The second-year junior high student used to play on the same soccer team as Eevee trainer Yuki Fukuma and the two are still good friends.

Umbreon and Raito Akutsu were designed by Occultic;Nine and Rental Magica artist pako. Raito refers to himself as a "fallen angel dressed in darkness" although his real personality is very shy. He's currently in the middle of puberty as a second year junior high student. He's been in the same club as Asuka since childhood.

There are still more Eevee-lutions that need respective trainer designs, so there will probably be further updates. What MOVIC and Project Eevee plan to do with this characters is also unclear.

Which one is your favorite so far?
