posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The year of Ojamajo Doremi is coming. The magical girl series is celebrating 20 years with a new anniversary website that promises new announcements throughout the year.

The series is already confirmed to the take the stage at this year's AnimeJapan. The anime was also the subject of a retrospective column on the Pash Plus website (Japanese).

The 20th anniversary is kicking off with a new pop-up shop in Ikebukuro and Namba titled "Ojamajo Doremi Shop Part 3." The shop is open now with new limited edition items. The Ikebukuro shop opened in the P'Parco space on January 11 and will run until February 27. The Namba location is also open until February 27. Both locations will cycle through different animation setting materials throughout the month.

Items for sale include magnets, plush dolls, enamel pins, charms, can badges, a commemorative pocket watch, stickers, and stationary items.

Toei Animation created the original magical girl anime series in 1999. The story follows three elementary aged girls who become witches. Junichi Satō, of Sailor Moon fame, directed the original show which ran for 51 episodes. It then spawned the sequel anime series Ojamajo Doremi Sharp, Mo~tto! Ojamajo Doremi, and Ojamajo Doremi DOKKAAN! as well as an original video anime and two films.

Ojamajo Doremi has a checkered history in the U.S. 4Kids Entertainment produced an English language version of the first season that aired on 4Kids TV but it was heavily edited, while episode 30 was skipped completely.
