Studio 4℃ Sets Genius Party Release Dates

First set of seven shorts opens in Japan on July 7; Shinichiro Watanabe, Shōji Kawamori, five other directors featured
"Visual Creator" group Studio 4℃ has announced the dates for the theatrical release of their collection of animated shorts entitled Genius Party. The film will open on July 7th in Ikebukuro and Shibuya, followed by screenings in theatres across Japan.
The film is being billed as a "party" held by Japan's finest animators and directors, and will be released in two installments. The directors doing shorts for the first Genius Party are Atsuko Fukushima (Animator for Akira), Shōji Kawamori (Escaflowne, Macross), Shinji Kimura (Art director for Steam Boy, Tekkon Kinkreet), Yoji Fukuyama (Author of Don Giovanni and other manga), Hideki Futamura (Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, Animatrix), Masaaki Yuasa (Mind Game), and Shinichiro Watanabe (Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop).
Shinichiro Watanabe will also produce the music for the film, which will include contributions from Toshio Nakagawa , Seiichi Yamamoto (guitarist for The Boredoms), jazz artist Takuma Watanabe, Christian Fennesz, electronica DJ Nobukazu Takemura and famed anime music composer Yoko Kanno.
The voice talent for Genius Party includes a number of actors and actresses better known for live action films. The cast includes 2004 Cannes Film Festival Best Actor Award winner Yuuya Yagira (Nobody Knows), 2007 Academy Awards Best Supporting Actress nominee Rinko Kikuchi (Babel), Kamen Rider Hibiki actor Rakuto Tochihara, Hisahiro Ogura, Hiroshi Mikami and many others.
The second Genius Party film is scheduled for release in early 2008. The official website is here.
