Japan's Shonen Jump Ends Prince of Tennis, Muhyo & Roji

posted on by Egan Loo
Both manga finish in magazine issue released on March 3

Takeshi Konomi's The Prince of Tennis manga and Yoshiyuki Nishi's Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation manga have both ended in this year's 14th issue of Shueisha's Shonen Jump magazine on March 3 in Japan. The Prince of Tennis ran for 379 installments since July of 1999, and the first 40 compiled volumes have sold 40.06 million copies so far. The 41st manga volume will ship in Japan on March 4. The final chapter features the end of the national tennis tournament between the main lead Ryoma's school (Seishun Academy) and a rival school (Rikkai Daigaku Fuzoku). The manga inspired an anime television series, two anime films, several anime video spinoffs, a string of hit stage musicals, and live-action versions in both Japan and China. The third anime video series, which will cover the national tennis tournament's final, will begin this April.

Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation ends after running since the end of 2004 in Shonen Jump. 16 compiled volumes of the paranormal mystery series have been published in Japan so far, with at least one more volume needed to complete the series. Viz Media has been publishing both manga versions of Prince of Tennis and Muhyo & Roji in North America.
