Mai-Mai Shinko Film by Black Lagoon Director in 2009

 The official Japanese website for the Mai Mai Shinko to Sennen no Mahō (Mai-Mai Shinko and the Millennium-Old Magic) theatrical film has opened with confirmation of the planned 2009 opening. Director Sunao Katabuchi (Black Lagoon, Princess Arete) is adapting a children's fantasy novel called Mai-Mai Shinko from the award-winning author Nobuko Takagi. In a town in southwestern Japan in 1955, a nine-year-old girl named Shinko has an ancient family connection to a thousand-year-old province known as Suō. Shinko joins a new transfer student from her school on a magical adventure. The anime Studio Madhouse first revealed the project at the Tokyo International Anime Fair in March.
