Art Exhibit Celebrates 'God of Manga' Tezuka in Japan

posted on by Egan Loo

An exhibition featuring art by 35 artists based on comic legend Osamu Tezuka is being held in the art gallery section of the Parco department store, which is located in the Shibuya district of Tokyo. It would have been Tezuka's 80th birthday on November 3. The exibit will run through November 10.

Tezuka's former elementary school also celebrated his anniversary by unveiling a statue of Astro Boy on its doorsteps. The manga pioneer's Tezuka Productions studio announced that it would post 700 manga titles and 100 anime titles online for free. On October 23, 2009, a computer-animated film based on Tezuka's Astro Boy manga series will debut in American theaters.
