Bakugan Nominated for Toy Franchise, Boy Toy of the Year

The Toy Industry Association (TIA) announced last month that Cartoon Network's Bakugan Battle Brawlers franchise has been nominated for the Property of the Year category for the 9th annual Toy Of The Year (TOTY) Awards. The nominating committee, which includes "major toy retailers, toy inventors, toy trade journalists and academicians" also nominated Spin Master's Bakugan Battle Brawlers Battle Pack Series 1 Spheres for Boy Toy of the Year. The franchise centers around a combination of metal cards and marble-like magnetic toys that automatically transform into figures during gameplay. The winners will be announced during Toy Fair 2009 in New York City in the middle of February.
The Cartoon Network began running the anime version in the United States last February, after Japan and Canada had already debuted the anime in 2007. The Hollywood Reporter newspaper revealed last month that Universal Pictures and Stuber Productions signed a deal with Spin Master for a theatrical film version.
