Satelight to Relaunch Basquash! for Sports Fans, Kids

posted on by Egan Loo
Relaunch of bastketball-robot anime planned for broader audience appeal

The Satelight anime studio told ANN that it plans to relaunch the Basquash! basketball-robot television series with a new focus on sports fans and little kids. The original series was targeted toward an otaku audience, and the idea with the new series is to pull in more casual sports fans and a younger audience, in order to broaden the show's appeal. Shōji Kawamori (Macross, Escaflowne, Aquarion) collaborated with France's Thomas Romain (Oban Star-Racers) on the anime, and the original series aired in Japan from April to October of last year.

Satelight has not announced a new television series for 2010. However, it is working on second Macross Frontier film, Macross Frontier: Sayonara no Tsubasa, as well as the 2011 Mōretsu Pirates television adaptation of Yuichi Sasamoto's Mini-Skirt Uchū Kaizoku (Mini-Skirt [Space] Pirates) space-opera adventure novels.
