Production I.G Animates New Otakon Opening Video
posted on by Egan Loo
Otakon has announced that Production I.G, the studio behind Ghost in the Shell and Blood: The Last Vampire, will animate an original anime short for the opening animation of the July 30-August 1 convention in Baltimore. Nekomataya, an animation director on Eureka Seven, Kurau: Phantom Memory, and Wolf's Rain, is directing the new short featuring Otakon's mascots Hiroko-chan and Hiroshi-kun.
Game composer Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana, Koudelka) wrote the new short's opening song "Shackles of Night," and singer Sarah Alainn (Xenoblade) wrote the lyrics. Eminence Symphony Orchestra founder (and Otakon 2007 guest) Hiroaki Yura is supervising the music, while Shihori (Macross Frontier: Itsuwari no Utahime's "Universal Bunny" lyricist) is singing the song.
Otakon's two previous opening animation videos were both produced by Madhouse, and an Otakon staffer had produced another one beforehand.
