posted on by Egan Loo
The November issue of Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine is announcing on Saturday that Akira Miyagawa is launching a manga adaptation of the Appleseed XIII anime project in the next issue on October 25. The first installment in the manga series will run 68 pages, including four in color. Miyagawa (no relation to the music composer with a similar name) also created the science-fiction action manga 018 (Love-Eighteen) in the same magazine last year.
Appleseed XIII is a new retelling of Masamune Shirow's Appleseed future paramilitary manga, separate from Kazuyoshi Katayama's previous original video anime and Shinji Aramaki's two computer-animated movies. This latest adaptation is composed of 13 22-minute direct-to-video anime episodes, plus two feature-length compilation films of the episodes.
Appleseed XIII ~Yuigon~ opened in Japan on June 13, and a limited edition of the first Blu-ray volume was sold at participating theaters. A regular release of the third volume on Blu-ray and DVD shipped on September 7.
