Manga Schedules Clannad and Clannad After Story in May and June (Updated)

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Otaku News interview also reports plans for Angel Beats! Blu-ray/DVD in April, Hetalia and others.

Following its recent interview with Andrew Partridge of Kazé UK and Anime on Demand, the website Otaku News has also interviewed Jerome Mazandarani of Manga UK. While the full interviw will be published on Otaku UK "at a later date," the site reported several announcements about new releases.

One of them is Manga's plan about the series Clannad, pictured right, and Clannad After Story. (ANN has checked with Manga that it will release both series.) According to the Otaku UK report, there will be four three-disc DVD volumes in May and June. Later, Manga tweeted that Clannad and Clannad After Story would be released across two DVD volumes each, and that Clannad would be "DVD only at this stage."

The slice of life anime is based on a visual novel franchise from the software developer Key (Air, Kanon). The main characters in Clannad are Tomoya Okazaki, a troubled third year high schooler, and his student acquaintances. The first TV series was broadcast from October 2007, followed by the sequel series Clannad After Story in 2008.

Following Manga's acquisition of the 2010 series Angel Beats! last October (pictured left), Otaku News reports the series will have a Blu-ray/DVD release at the end of April. The release will be in conjunction with Siren Visual/Sentai. Angel Beats! involves a battle in the afterlife, waged by the "Shinda Sekai Sensen" (Afterlife War Front). So far the franchise includes two manga series, a light novel series written by creator Jun Maeda, and two Internet radio shows.

In addition, Otaku News reports:

- that Manga will release the film Hetalia Axis Powers: Paint it, White! on June 18, followed by Hetalia World Series in July and early August. Both are sequels to the original Hetalia - Axis Powers series.

- that Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society will be released this May as a Blu-ray/DVD double play, "with more extras added as well as extras from Bandai US release." (In a later tweet, Manga specified the date as May 21.) Asked about the prospects of a Blu-ray of the two seasons of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Manga tweeted that it would release them when Bandai said it was okay.

- Manga also reaffirmed its intention to release Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts and the second season of Strike Witches, but gave no dates for either. (Last November, it said that Baka and Test would be released in May 2012.)

Update - More details added.
