New Katsuhiro Otomo Manga Short to Run in Geijutsu Shincho

Otomo's 1st short since 2006; 8-page color manga to run in special issue

The official Twitter account of the Japanese art magazine Geijutsu Shincho revealed last Friday that the magazine's next issue will feature an original eight-page color manga drawn by Katsuhiro Ōtomo (Akira, Domu). This will mark the first manga drawn by Otomo since "Kouen" ("Park"), his 2006 short.

The manga is part of a larger feature on Otomo and his cultural impact that will run in Geijutsu Shincho on March 24. The feature also includes an article by Tomo Machiyama and Patrick Macias on how Otomo's work affected American culture.

France's Fête de l'anim' festival revealed that Otomo is working on a new animated short film called "Hi no Yōjin" ("Combustible") this year. An exhibit featuring original work by Otomo will run in Tokyo's 3331 Arts Chiyoda space from April 9 to May 30. The event will be first retrospective exhibit on the artist. Kaba 2, the sequel to Otomo's 1989 Kaba artbook was released earlier this year.

Thanks to Daniel Zelter for the news tip.

Update: Otomo revealed that the manga is titled "DJ Tick." Thanks, toru.
