Mountain-climbing drama received first Manga Taisho award, live-action film adaptation

The latest issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine revealed on Saturday that Shinichi Ishizuka's Gaku - Minna no Yama manga series will come to an end with its next chapter, which is scheduled to be released on June 5. The story deals with the human drama of a climber on a mountain rescue team who travels the world to climb mountains. It debuted in Big Comic Original in 2003, and has sold a total of over 4.5 million copies across 16 volumes.

In 2008, Gaku was awarded the first ever Manga Taisho award, and in 2009, it received the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award under the "General" category. A live-action film adaptation of the manga starring Shun Oguri was also released in 2011.
