Series based on Broccoli's dating sim game for female players gets home video release later this year

North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced on Friday that it has licensed the Uta no Prince-sama - Maji Love 1000% television anime series. Sentai Filmworks will release the series digitally with a home video release to follow later this year. The company's press release only mentions the first season of the series.

The Uta no Prince Sama television anime adapts Broccoli's 2010 PSP romance game franchise of the same name for female players. In the slapstick romantic comedy, a girl goes to a school for the performing arts with boys who are budding idols.

Yuu Kou (Chrono Crusade, Loveless, Monochrome Factor) directed the anime at A-1 Pictures Inc. Tomoko Konparu (Kimi ni Todoke, NANA, Nodame Cantabile) supervised the scripts, and Mitsue Mori adapted Chinatsu Kurahana's original game character designs for animation. The cast of the anime is the same as the cast in the games.

The 13-episode anime series aired in Japan last summer, and Niconico streamed the series with English subtitles as it aired. The second season, Uta no Prince-sama - Maji Love 2000%, premiered in Japan on April 3, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs.
