Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Coming This Summer

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Square Enix president Yoichi Wada and producer Naoki Yoshida announced during the "FFXIV Producers Letter Live" program at the Niconico Chōkaigi 2 event on Saturday that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will debut for PlayStation 3 and Windows 8 PCs this summer.

Yoshida stated that about 580,000 people are participating in the game's beta testing, and more will be added as the game enters Phase 3 in early June. Beta testers will receive early access to the official game as a bonus for participating.

The panel also presented character designs for some of the game's non-playable characters (NPCs). One character, "Arfino," will play an important part in the new story. Shinnosuke Tachibana (Sekirei, Kamisama Kiss) will provide the character's voice. Phase 3 also introduces the Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa areas.

Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV Online for personal computers in September 2010. After criticism from fans, the company revealed an updated version of the game titled Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn that adds a new world and story.
