The Shiga Prefecture Police arrested 41-year-old unemployed Shinya Kotani from Yosano, Kyoto on Tuesday on suspicion of using the file-sharing software Share to upload the television anime K-ON!! and other works without permission. The suspect allegedly admitted to the charges.
According to the arrest report, the suspect shared K-ON!! and four other works from his home personal computer last December. The police had actually discovered earlier anime videos via Share in November and determined the IP address of the suspect's personal computer.
Security researchers have known about flaws in Share's anonymity features since 2006.
