Amiibo Figures, Mii Fighter Join Super Smash Brothers Wii U (Update)

posted on by Karen Ressler
Figures will also be compatible with Mario Kart 8

Nintendo demonstrated its "Amiibo" figures at its E3 press conference on Tuesday. Like Disney Infinity and Skylanders, the figures will be compatible with several games, starting with the Wii U version of Super Smash Brothers and will also be available for Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Yoshi's Wooly World, and others.

Nintendo announced the figurines in May. Players can buy figures of Nintendo's popular characters by end of this year, and those figures will work with multiple other software titles for Wii U and 3DS. Since each figure stores a limited amount of data, a game can customize or level up a figure's character.

Nintendo also announced that it would add a Mii Fighter to the Wii U version of Super Smash Brothers. The Mii Fighter will count as three separate characters: the brawler, the gunner, and the sword fighter. Each character will have different move set options.

Super Smash Brothers will ship for Nintendo 3DS on October 3 and for Wii U in the 2014 Holiday Season.

Update: Nintendo also announced Palutena from Kid Icarus for Super Smash Brothers.

Update 2: amiibo trailer, Palutena animated trailer added.
